Meh, pointless for me to update on my 5850

The 5870 showed some improvements. Your 5850 should as well.

It's interesting. From the beginning it was assumed that since VLIW4 was the newer arch, it would have the most to gain from drivers. At least with these, the 6870 (old VLIW5) got the greatest improvement. It's not the first time for the 6800 series to see good gains either.

Anyone else tried Minecraft on these? I seem to be getting complete freezes very frequently on my HD 6850. Same with 11.5. 🙁

11.4 is the latest one where Minecraft works great.

Installed 11.6 every thing running absolutely fine , to people having trouble

You first try to Uninstall the ati drivers from control Panel

Second step , In device manger right click on video card and click uninstall device , put tick on delete drivers for this device

Third step , Restart system is Safe mode , run Driver Sweeper to remove any remaining Ati drivers from system & windows registry , restart system in normal mode

Fourth step , Try Installing new drivers.

This has always worked for me 🙂

Now the freezing in shift 2 is gone. hd6850.

and it is running few degrees lower than with 10.5 it seems. (or could be just lower room temp today 😛)

Does these driver updates really do any good at all? I have the Radeon HD 3200 on my desktop, and the new display driver released monthly doesn't seem to make a difference at all.

I am not sure if this is new to 11.6 but I did not notice it in the past. There is an "Apply current video quality settings to Internet video" and it makes flash contents look much better. I confirmed it in IE9 and Opera 11.11. The default video settings look real good as well.

This is pretty amazing, by the way. Using the 'demo mode' at the bottom shows a pretty incredible difference to my eyes. The whites and colors are more brilliant and the objects look more sharp. Nice thinking AMD.

WIN7Ultimate/HD5870

May not effect many, but I received the automatic update available from CCC and for the first time decided to allow CCC to upgrade from 11.4 to 11.6.

Bad decision, totally horked up my PC, specifically with Media Player Classic. It appeared to be applying video settings over the top to the point where any flash video would jump full-screen and then crop the video into a window and then can't even ctrl-alt-del back to desktop.

I use MPC for all video so that's no good.

After several minutes of driversweeper and regedit and CCleaner I am back to 11.4 with no more issues. I did try re-installing clean 11.6 but same result.

If I get around to upgrading to HD6970 I'll consider trying them again.

Why not:
Uninstall drivers
Reboot safe mode
DriverSweeper
Reboot into Normal windows
Install 11.6

Disable hardware acceleration for flash video.

Yeah, I was considering doing that, but I was more worried that I'd have to find a flash thing playing so I could right-click to access the settings.

Oh and a FYI, 11.6 does not fix the issue haha. It actually crashed my graphics drivers earlier when I accidentally clicked on a YouTube link without thinking about it 😛.

MLAA gets applied on Firefox 5 with those 🙁 No idea about the previous ones, didn't use MLAA for a while.

that's just your system. 11.5 has handled everything i throw at it. as soon as any flash video starts playing the card drops to 2d clocks while bitmining. I can see my hashes drop to 50% and the video plays fine. as soon as i close the tab with the player, the clocks jump back to full miner rate. Video/media players work fine too. any mpc files that use the card barely take 15Mhash off my avg.

check your settings or maybe try an older browser.

What kind of difference are you looking for? You should have gotten the new CCC panel lately, but the current IGPS (non brazos/llano) are based on old tech and are fairly weak by today's standards. 5% improvement on 5 Frames Per Second doesn't make the experience any less of a slideshow.

This issue has been talked about before on here and it seems to affect anything that uses the video card while at 100% GPU use. I turn off GPU acceleration in flash, and everything works fine. I opened the Curse Client, which is GPU accelerated, without thinking about it, and it froze my PC. I can play 1080p h264 videos while mining (with MPC-HC), and there are no issues. Although, I'm pretty sure those aren't being decoded by my GPU.

Sorry to semi-necro this thread but I didn't think it deserved its own topic.

Was on 11.2 previously, Bad Company 2 had lots of graphical glitches on my 4890, no particle effects would show. Fire, blood, explosions and dust were all invisible, but at least BC2 was stable.

Guess you know where I'm going with this, after installing 11.6 everything renders the way it should but now the game crashes to a gray screen, 10 seconds later my computer locks up. (Caps lock/Num lock have no effect.)

A little sleuthing revealed that with the 11.6 cats, as my GPU temp rose, the fan speed changed only a little. My only way to play the game now is to manually set the fan speed every time I launch a game (or create profiles...but f that.)

OS is Win 7 x64, SP1. Just throwing this out there if anyone is having the same issues.

Is there no manual fan speed control available? MSI Afterburner or the like?
