One of the links in your posts leads to a page concerning the 11.4 preview driver, and they're promising even more ridiculous performance gains :|

  • Up to 23% performance improvement in Aliens vs. Predator
  • Up to 22% performance improvement in Batman: Arkham Asylum
  • Up to 15% performance improvement in Battleforge
  • Up to 72% performance improvement in Civilization V
  • Up to 59% performance improvement in Call of Duty: Black Ops
  • Up to 26% performance improvement in FarCry 2
  • Up to 35% performance improvement in Lost Planet 2
  • Up to 30% performance improvement in Metro 2033
  • Up to 11% performance improvement in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
  • Up to 19% performance improvement in Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
this can't be true... omg. I have to be missing something here-- maybe AMD is making the claims while switching from some really old driver to 11.4? this is really sneaky

Well the 6900 series cards do use part of AMD's new architecture design. It was only going to make sense that as time passes AMD will increase the performance.

It looks like AMD found the secret optimization that Nvidia had found with Civ 5

Not necessarily.
It's possibly:

11.3 gets finalised.
11.3 gets sent to Microsoft for WHQL testing.
11.4 preview gets released.
11.3 WHQL gets released.
11.4 sent to MS for WHQL testing.
11.4 gets released.

Because WHQL testing takes a bit of time, and the 11.4 preview driver isn't necessarily final, and hasn't been WHQL tested.

That made sense.
Now I want to see a benchmark of 11.2 vs 11.3 vs 11.4 preview with a 6850 or a 6870.

Does this affect 5000 series cards? Particularly, does 11.3 contain these awesome Civ 5 improvements? for 5000 series cards?

those are the performance increases for the 6790, not across the board.

I wouldn't be so sure about your claim. The way they structured that article was that 11.4 would have full support for the 6790 and have the optimizations applied across the board. To have optimizations - a baseline comparison, based on percentages - based on a card that's not even out yet... get my drift? :)

If they had just applied to the 6790, then it would've read as "performance optimizations for the 6700 series", as it's always been in the past.

Perhaps Silverforce can confirm this for us, but alas, this deserves a pint or two if what I feel is actually true. :)

The 11.3's are really incredible. I'm getting over 100 fps in Crysis with my 2 GTX 460s. Way to go, AMD!

I wonder if I will see any gains with my hd4870x2. pretty sure the files for this are about as mature as you're going to get. I did upgrade anyways.
