You can't have a PDF file named .pdf, I'd assume the same is true for dll

I wonder what version of windows he used.

If I want it to be .dll then I have to leave it empty or I have to do a SPACEBAR.dll?

you can't name a file just .dll
Windows will not allow blank name before the .dll extension

Something must be horribly corrupted with the OP's system if he's able to name a file as .dll.

the issue here is clearly not an ATI drivers issue because the drivers work fine when programs are able to link to them.

It's a case of a corrupted installation issue. Whether the installation is Windows' fault or ATI's fault remains to be investigated.

But if it were me, I'd say hell with Windows and re-install fresh. How long did it take the OP to wait? How long would a fresh Windows installation take?

There is no such thing as .dll for starter, secondly time by time I play ET:QW which is OGL IIRC and it never broke for me since it's out (4870, 4850x2, 5870 cards.)

You have to use the command prompt to create a file with an empty filename with a designated file type.

start > run > cmd > go to the directory > rename whatever.dll .DLL
