LOL! Not the first time someone has pointed out the funny angle around here. The whole thing satisfied the city's building inspector after we tied it down with tie-down straps so it's all up to code and perfectly level. :p

The cinder blocks as steps were temporary while it was under construction and, thus, not level. It has had a *level* porch all along... and two expansions built on to it since then. We first built a lean-to that was so over-built that we enclosed it and made an insulated tool shed (somewhat like a home's wash-room). We then built ANOTHER lean-to behind that with a side protrusion to shade/work outside.

Fun day today. The woman who sold me the defective Pin-Bot claims to clean and test all of her games but she clearly doesn't!

First of all, she couldn't get her second copy of Pin-Bot to work either then, well, let me explain:
I once told my friend that any NES game is worth $1 for things like the cart shell or making repros. While she spent the better part of an hour trying to get either copy of Pin-Bot to work in her clone system or mine (I brought a top-loader and a front-loader), I pulled out all of her $0.99 games and put my money where my mouth is. All in all, I bought all 27 of them! She actually asked if I was trying to start a competing shop. :D I got multiples of NES Play Action Football, NFL Football, Hoops, Golf, Bandai Golf, Jack Nicklaus Golf, Baseball, MLB Baseball, and John Elway's Quarterback. Ichinisan and I cleaned and tested them all and found that one of our newly acquired NES Play Action Football dupes would only show garbled graphics distinctly different from typical bad/worn/dirty connector issues. I suspected a bad CHR chip and eventually just tried to start the game with the garbled graphics. When we finally gave it long enough to make noise we heard two notes with the second sustained as the garbled graphics momentarily disappeared. We both instantly recognized it before it could even hit the third note: This is Sunsoft's "Batman" inside a NES Play Action Football pak! We then opened it up to find this:

97de7ae3b136bbbd53a9be49babb4de1.jpg

Yeah, there's no way that passed testing:
19222fda62ac017ff1b5e2aba24ae0d8.jpg

Furthermore, this is a different PCB than the one on the Bootgod database (TLROM instead of NES-B4 or something). It seems to be factory soldered, so the chips weren't swapped. I think this was a factory mis-labeled game pak and someone tried to pull the PCB out by the card edge connector using pliers or something. Very strange!

I also stopped by another game store and between the two I added:
Air Fortress (from HAL Labs!)
Bad Street Brawler (Power Glove game!)
Championship Bowling (4-Score game!)
Top Secret Episode Golgo 13
Harlem Globetrotters (4-Score game!)
Talking Super Jeopardy (4-Score game!)
Palamedes
Pin-Bot (a WORKING copy this time)
The Punisher (only good LJN game?)
Taboo: The Sixth Sense (Rareware game!)
Ultimate Basketball

Edit:
Forgot to mention these additions from eBay:
Monster in My Pocket
Times of Lore
Monster Party
Mario is Missing
Ninja Kid
Zelda II: Adventure of Link, Classic NES Series gray version
Little Nemo The Dream Master (3rd dupe)
Kirby's Adventure (3rd dupe)
Kung-Fu Heroes (3rd dupe)

Tagin' Dragon (unlicensed)
Shockwave (unlicensed)
Micro Machines (unlicensed)

I'll probably sell the unlicensed games along with some others I have. Of my unlicensed games I'll probably only keep my Wisdom Tree games and Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy.

Not NES but I finally got me a mint copy CIB Cave Story 3DS with the lenticular cover and all for $40. Probably the most expensive 3DS game I didn't have already.

I played NFL playaction football a couple weeks ago. Man the 49ers were just stacked. Joe Montana got tired in the 2nd Q so I subbed him for Steve Young.

Another I forgot to add was Ninja Gaiden III Ancient Ship of Doom. Fixed!

Wasn't it, like, cheating to use Montana in Tecmo Bowl because he was just too fast or something?

Congrats! I'm missing a lot from my 3DS collection. I might have to reconsider only buying new because a lot of it is out of print. :(

I don't know, but the 1st game I played with Montana he got injured in the 1Q. The second game I played with him I noticed his energy level was very low by the start of the 2Q. It was strange to think I was required to sub in a backup QB.

Steve Young was one of the fastest QBs.

(

It's not that he was too fast. Both San Francisco and Chicago have a pass play that you can always complete, even if the opposing player calls the correct defensive play. It generally lead to special "rules" (often ignored) being placed on head-to-head games prohibiting using that particular receiver when the plays matched up. I have seen semi-grown men almost come to blows over those plays.

Tecmo Bowl is the sole reason I bought a NES. I hate to think how many games I have played over the years.

I knew there was something about it. Thanks!

I think The Lone Ranger fried an NES. :(
...which is why I was busy troubleshooting instead of updating this thread with that title. ;)

On that note: Added The Lone Ranger and Mission: Impossible! to the collection.

The Lone Ranger was already a deal ($5 under chart value) but I asked to get Mission: Impossible! for half price (marked $8; charts for $4). The pawn shop agreed... and just kept sweetening the deal! I got a Saturn controller and a 6-button programmable Genesis controller with the two NES games for so little that they balked at accepting a credit card for it. Hey: I was standing there with the card out ready to pay more when they started reducing the price more than I asked! I offered to pay $1 more to cover the fee and they told me not to worry about it. Win!

I'll definitely be going back. They came out to my car before I left and asked for my number so they can call me when they get anything similar. :D

The "fried NES" Ichinisan is talking about is a unit that started outputting only black and white after I left it running The Lone Ranger for a couple hours while I was deep-cleaning other games. I have two backups but these things are supposed to be tanks. I'm sure it can be fixed by replacing caps or something and I think I discovered an easy solder-free method for replacing the coin cell batteries while I was at it, so I'm not too bummed.

When you turn it off for a while then turn it on you see scrambled color that seems to shift and unevenly melt away as the image stabilizes in B&W. Looks really freaky!

I must have gotten confused between Playaction football and Tecmo Bowl. I still haven't gotten Tecmo bowl yet, because I want Super Tecmo Bowl and every ebay auction wants to throw both games in.

Picked up Wild Gunman today (another Zapper game). It was $14.95 at a local pawn shop, which is right in line with online prices but I got tired of seeing it every time I went in and being reminded that they had a properly priced NES game which I didn't own.

I also tested a SEGA Genesis model 1 my mother found at a dumpster. I've got way too many of these things lying around! When I saw it sitting on her porch I assumed she had pulled one of my four units out of the accessory building (I recently left them on the couch) which led to a very confusing conversation.

I kinda like the original better but that's because it's simpler (never been one to study football strategy) and the music is more classic. Putting the classic music in Tecmo Super Bowl would have been enough to woo me though.

Damn, that other cop is mad fast, lol. You've convinced me to just get both. I did buy 5 more NES bitboxes from stoneagegamer so I'll have enough plastic left.

The simplicity might help you find someone to play against:
http://youtu.be/TFN4isNjpz8

It's kinda like how you will find more players for NBA Jam than for whatever NBA simulation games were on X-BAND. ;)

That said, there are a lot of ROM hacks and yearly updates for Tecmo Super Bowl to keep it up-to-date and people still play it competitively, so that definitely only applies to casual fans.

Working on a big deal tonight (over 60 titles). This one might have to come in waves!

Edit: Done! It's now easier to track what I don't have instead. ;) I would probably do it that way too if there weren't so many games in that list I'm not particularly interested in.

Donkey Kong Jr (might not work but it's included with my working DK Classics if I can't fix it)
Donkey Kong 3 (why not?)
Dragon Spirit
Flintstones: Dino & Hoppy (in case I ever stumble across Dinosaur Peak ;))
Ghostbusters (first game I remember hearing digitized speech in)
Ghostbusters II (finishes the set even though I want the HAL Labs euro game too)
Gradius (classic)
Gremlins 2 (played a lot on 1994)

LOL! These guys say Lawrence Taylor and Bo Jackson:
https://youtu.be/joInVbpues4

I pretty much agree with those guys. Those are the two fastest guys, offense and defense respectively. The problem with Bo is he only has one running play because Marcus Allen has the other. Also Bo's running play is properly coded so if the defense calls that play it gets shut down. The general strategy when playing against the Raiders is to simply call that running play on defense every time.

MOAR!
James and Mike of AVGN fame played "Sky Kid" on Monday for their "James & Mike Play..." series and this $8 game suddenly disappeared from eBay except for one copy listed at $99 (!). I checked a couple local places and found it for $9!

Also picked up:
All-Pro Basketball
Airwolf
Bases Loaded 3, Ryne Sandberg Plays
Destination Earthstar
Dynowarz The Destruction of Spondylus
Gauntlet II (boxed)
Image Fight
Infiltrator (boxed, dupe)
Indy Heat, Danny Sullivan's (4p game)
Magic Johnson's Fast Break (4p game)
M.U.S.C.L.E., Tag Team Match
Nintendo World Cup (dedicated)
Sesame Street A-B-C
Sqoon (EXPENSIVE)
Twin Eagle
Uninvited (EXPENSIVE)
Wheel of Fortune featuring Vanna White (with manual)
Yo! Noid (broken)

I also added Total Recall but it turned out to be broken so I exchanged it and put the money toward Uninvited. It appeared to be a problem with the CHR-RAM.

I removed RBI Baseball II from the list. Even though I have the licensed Japanese equivalent, it isn't licensed here. I'm not listing any of my other unlicensed USA games or my Japanese-only games so it's off the list.

I received the huge load I already mentioned and found that Donkey Kong Jr. works perfectly fine. Yo! Noid, on the other hand, has a PCB that pushes into the cart when you try to plug it into anything other than an original ZIF socket. Immortal boots and plays but it the image is not correct. On a CRT the bottom of the image appears at the top of the screen and what should be the top of the image is pushed down. On an HDTV the image appears scrambled/flickering.

I used to sit and watch my dad play this game for hours and hours trying to find those keys and get the stars lol. It's the only game my sister held onto after he passed away.
