CAT5e vs CA6?

When I purchased my current house, I went through and wired just about every room with at least 2 Cat6 and 2 RG-6 runs. I went with Cat6 because gigabit was still a little iffy at the time.

However, nowadays Cat5e is certainly fine for gigabit, and here I am buying a new house with the drywall still not in. So, I'm looking to wire this place up.

What's the future look like for Cat5e vs Cat6? I haven't been staying up on the latest, so any suggestions are welcome.

Is it worth running Cat6 instead of Cat5e?

If you like to rewire every few years put CAT5e in the walls, and you would have a nice project few years from now.

This is very interesting! I actually want to do the same CAT6 job on my apartment (the walls have long been finished). Any idea on the difficulty of this, or should I just wait until I get a house built?

I'll google for a guide.

I'd say you should wire it with cat6. It's not like it's super-expensive compared to the cat5e. Unless it is...in which case you should go to a different store 😉 😛
