cat5 vs cat5e

Hi,
I initially posted this on tech support, but now I think it might be more appropriate here.
I just started building a home network through a D-link DI604 router.
I had 1 75 foot cat5e cable that I tried using to connect one of the computers, but the router won't recognize a computer attached to that cable. I tried a shorter cat5e and that didn't work either. These were "pre made" cables. (I didn't put them together myself) and I've tried all ports on the router. All ports work fine with straight ahead cat5. All sources I've seen state that cat5e should be compatable with a 10/100 based ethernet.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Wierd....Cat5e should work just fine.
I could only think that you might have gotten a couple bad cables. 🙁

Sounds like bad cables, possible crosstalk? Send me a pm if you need cables, I have some that are factory molded.

You stated: "All ports work fine with straight ahead cat5."

Are your Cat 5e cables crossover cables? You need staight through cables.

Also are the link lights coming on?
