Cat urinating on stuff...

Hoping some cat experts can help here, I'm out of ideas. We have had a cat for years now. We also have a few dogs. For some reason we can't stop the cat from randomly peeing on things. Blankets/clothes, rugs or carpet.

The cat is neutered. We clean the litter box daily. The dogs don't bother him anymore than regular dog/cat interactions.

We are moving to a new house soon and really don't want to ruin any new carpet we are going to have installed. I don't want to get rid of him, I really don't. But I don't know what else we can try?

Any suggestions/thoughts?

He doesn't own much. I could piss on him, maybe?

See, that's where you are wrong. He owns everything he has pissed on.

:D

serious question--is the litterbox outside and potentially accessible to other random cats?

My wife is a cat lover and I can tell you from first hand experiences that nearly all cats are crazy. Sometimes its almost like an internal switch that is set off and they start acting out. Since we've moved into our new house 5 years ago we've been lucky that our 4 cats did not urinate on anything but after a few years of being here without incident 2 of them began pooping in the house. One would poop in nearly the same spot about 4 feet from the entrance to the gigantic cat box in our laundry room and the other would do it in random places. We put one in a cage for about 2/3 of the day for months. That was messy and a PITA. We eventually had to put the 2 cats outside to the dismay of my wife. One came up missing after a couple months and the other suddenly got sick and died. We are now down to 2 cats and everything is cool. I think sometimes its too many cats using the same box even if you keep it clean other times who knows. We have one cat that is really awesome, he's really like a good dog trapped in a cats body. If there was only a way to pick out a cat as cool as him. If it were up to me we would never get another cat but my wife has at least resigned to a 2 cat max.

The cat is marking, something set him off and likely you will NEVER get ahead of the problem unless you seriously scrub down the entire house top to bottom.

I used Natures Miracle, scrubbed the carpet repeatedly and washed every wall down. It took me forever to get ahead of it. In the end I had to lock mine in one room for a few days while all I did was scrub everything. I MEAN EVERYTHING.

After talking to the Vet, he thinks it may have been another cat outside that set mine off and if it returned it would happen all over again.

I love it when people say this...if you want an animal that acts like a dog, get a fucking dog!

Then again, I think cats are worse than useless, I seriously don't get the appeal at all.

Oh did I mention we also had our one cat on freaking Prozac. Guess what it didn't help a damn bit lol. All it did is calm it down when it was in the cage. Cats really are a pain in the ass big time.

Did you scrub the outside as well because that where the other cat might've marked with its urine which set off your cat to start marking.

Cats are interesting creatures, I was putting my new pc together, as I was talking on the phone I saw the cat out of the corner of my eye jump on the table then a moment later fly out the back door. I didn't think much of it, cat's always do shit for no reason.

So when I went back to finishing my build, low and behold the last screw for the heatsink's back plate was gone. I went out back and the cat was nowhere to be found. I looked around but didn't see the cat or the screw anywhere. Of course it was some uber specific screw, so I won't have a spare laying around. Not even sure if the company will send me another or sell just the screw. I emailed them, but if they don't help me I guess I now have a $70 paper weight thank to my awesome kitty.

Cats are higher up than dogs on the useless scale for the fact that you don't have to pick up after them, they don't drool everywhere, don't have breath that smells like ass from 6 feet away, and generally don't act retarded and spastic or feel the need to be insecure and bark endlessly at shit 10 times their size from behind a protective screen.

I like cats, probably more than dogs for the above reasons, but I can't have either. My stuff is far too expensive for a $50 animal to piss on or puncture with a claw. And I refuse to imprison or modify an animal to suite my own needs.

Tried having a kitten once, but it laser focused on the *one* thing it couldn't have even after providing a taller more inviting cat tree; my Definitive Tech BP3000TL speakers, 6' high covered in a cloth "sock". And it knew two. Let it into the room, it would look at you, look at the speakers, slowly inch over, then BAM straight up mad dash with dialated pupils... ex had to give it to her parents, we weren't having that. Not at all.

How old is your cat?

Mine never made a mess until she turned 15. Then she started peeing anywhere there was tile - the bathroom, entryway, back door. It was the first sign of kidney disease. :(

Get your cat to the vet. They can do blood tests to find out if he's healthy, rule out any problems. I hope it's not kidney disease - that shit sucks. :(

I've got a cat. She pisses on everything, and what she doesn't piss on she claws into shreds. It all started the day we got our first dog, and she hasn't let up since. She's a miserable, fat, ugly, hairball-spitting beast. I'd impale her on a putting iron if I didn't think I'd go to jail or at least leave my kids with permanent psychological issues. Actually, it's just the jail.

Lots of people think their pets don't pee on things, but talk to anybody that repairs things like speakers and they have been hit. Its marking by scent, and once done they want their scent there forever.

Def Tech speakers I doubt are damaged by cat pee, maybe get some stands nothing sounds that good on the floor anyway.

The cat is 5 maybe? We don't have any other cats, so him sharing a litter box isn't an issue either. It's also only accessible by him.

Some cats get kidney disease early. I'd get him to the vet, just to be sure.

That's a little fucked up to tell someone. Even for me as a non pet person who values stuff more than pets.
Actually I cautiously agree with him and I have two cats. The main problem I have had with cats is that when they get old they vomit EVERYWHERE. Until earlier this year I had three cats. I tried various foods, spent money at the vet, etc. but geriatric cats vomit. That is not the end of the world to clean up. However, one of my cats will piss in a blanket if it is left around and not folded. It really only does this in the basement, so now it's just not allowed in the basement.

If this cat ever decides to just start pissing wherever the hell it wants it's going to get a trip to the vet. And no drive home. It already shits sometimes in random spots, but cat shit is easy to clean up--like rabbit turds. Their urine is disgusting and vile and I won't put up with it.

BTW, I'm not going to be buying cats ever again. Honestly pets are filthy animals. Nasty, filthy bastards. Cats get in their litter box with shit and piss on their feet and then track it through the house. Dogs can't clean themselves so they stink unless regularly bathed. Dogs have better personalities (by a million times) but I know many dog owners who are absolutely just fed up with taking care of the damn things, particularly once babies come along. A switch is flicked by dog owners who have babies and almost immediately the dog is just a huge pain in the ass.
