Is it worth it? I am not a cat person and kept a stray that my dog (105lb german shephard) likes but I can't stand this smell. I know most of you liberal/communist hippies have cats.....Help?

This is a repost btw, I posted about this a million days ago. No idea how many weeks that is, but there you have it.

I just use Tidy Cat scoopable litter in an enclosed box. I clean it out every morning and have never been bothered by the smell.

Is your litterbox covered? We use Scoop Away (I think) and use the Multi Cat formula. Only time it really smells bad is when it goes for a while without being cleaned.

Use the clumping stuff. When the cat goes it turns into a small rock you can scoop out and toss in a bag and throw away.

glen, I think you are on the right track. I made the final switch to feline pine today and dumped her old litter in the trash can beside the toilet in my office. Later I smelled sh!t. I went to clean the box and nothing. The cat had sh!t in the trash can. Guess that doesn't say much for feline pine but gives me hope that she will use the toilet. :)

I prefer to use a litter called "Cedariffic". It's basically fine cedar wood sawdust. It's extremely light, smells good, and the cedar naturally supresses bacteria growth.

I used to get it in the local grocery store, but they stopped carying it, so I order 30lb bags online now.

:)

stop feeding it crap. crap in = crap out. no wet food. no crappy low-protein grocery store-brand food. no people-food treats. just quality dry food.

iams original  No stink at all from my kitty's box, even in my cramped apartment, and i don't clean it as often as I should, either. his coat is nice and soft, too.

I'm guessing there was a flamewar or something, and the parties PMed each other and agreed to edit it out?

However, I doubt there would be that much collaboration on this forum.
