Cat puke

I have two cats. On average, I see cat puke once a week. That's approximately 4 times a month and I don't freakin know which of them two gets sick. Worse, it could be both of them.

How to tell and which one to bring to the vet?

Or do I just go ahead and feed them both with some medicine like hairball treatment perhaps?

Help!
 
Best bet to find out which one is puking is to separate them until one (or more) pukes. I know, easier said than done, but it's really the only way.

Is there hair in the puke or is it straight up food?
If there is a lot of hair, look into hairball control food and/or a laxative.
 
I have two cats, also. And every two weeks or so, maybe three weeks, I'll find some upchuck on the floor. A close examination reveals it is usually a furball. Buy some furball medicine, follow the directions, and they should be fine.
 
Both our cats puke at one time or another.

One cat is fucking bulemic. He eats dry cat food, then pukes it up on the dammed carpet.

The other cat goes outside and eats grass, then pukes it up where ever she is...inside or outside...doesn't matter.

I agree with this, but I keep my cats outside on the screened in porch 85% of the time.
Also, buy better food....... Iams or Science Diet. The latter is better.
I use Science Diet Hairball Control and it's the best. I have 2 Vet friends and they agree.

 
It's the one that's acting like nothing's going on. Seriously, cats have no shame.

Hope it's hairballs and not sickness.

I really don't want to go into any 'close' examination of any puke. There has got to be an easier way to distinguish/diagnose all of this.
I did notice less incidence when I went back to Purina Kitty Chow.
 
1. Open dryer door
2. Put both cats inside
3. Close dryer door
4. Tumble for 5 minutes
5. Remove cats.
6. See who pukes first.
7. If neither pukes, repeat 1 through 5.

Oh come on you wuss, it's not like you have to poke around in it. A quick glance at it from standing height and you should easily be able to see hair in it (I guess it would be tough if the cats are light-colored though).
 
Some cats puke up their dry food when they have an inadequate source of water. Is the food dry looking or is it wet and slimy?

I bet the one cats throws up more than you realise. The other cat just eats it. Bet its the only time they get a hot meal.

Seriously tho when was the last time they have been dewormed?
 
I have four cats (used to have 6) they each take turns puking on, in and all around my house, including my bed. It comes in cycles as the hairball grows in their gut. I also use Iams or Science Diet hairball control food, with pretty good results. As the name suggests "Control" you cannot hope to contain it, only control it. Do your cats groom each other? I used to have two that would lick the fucking skin off of each other for hours on end. Hairball acceleration for sure.

First you need to find out if it's hair balls or food allergies. Most store food can cause puking that is interpreted as hair balls.

If it's hair balls, groom your cat daily or accept it once in a while.

Food I'd rather not take on the debate here as it turns into a debate of people that think cat's eat like people.

My one cat got crystals in it's urine and had to switch diets (was Science Diet Feline Maintenance with 30% Cat Chow mixed in). If you are feeding Dry, Cat Chow is one of the better of the worst...semi-moist and most canned foods are excellent usually (but don't promote dental care).

I am thinking about switching to the Wellness brand as I am paying $46 for 20lbs now on cat food.

It's pretty fked up what is allowed to go into pet foods. One of the allowed ingredients is euthanized and road killed cats and dogs.

Over the counter medicines for pets are usually terrible and cause more problems than help. Hair ball remedies are one of them.
