Good luck getting rid of the cat urine. There is a very simple yet painful solution to your problem, should you decide to keep the cat: Rip up the carpet and replace with the hard floor of your choice.

I'm keeping the cat. This was a one time incident caused by the fact that she hates my roommate and I already have plans to get rid of him.

normally need a good commercial grade enzyme pet odor remover and steam clean it up. usually ends up being only a few dollars more if you get the whole carpet steam cleaned and pay for the spot treatment. unless of course your carpet tech is a nice guy.

in extreme cases we would actually replace a section of padding or entire carpet. cheap padding and untreated carpet act like a shamwow.

For carpet, enzymatic cleaners like natures miracle are not going to do anything. Why? Because the pee will penetrate through the carpet, into the pad and, ultimately, into the floor sheathing beneath your carpet. The enzymatic cleaner can only destroy the urine it touches, and since it won't reach the sheathing you will have the cat pee smell until you do something about it.

I keep hearing this but I don't get why a liquid cleaner couldn't penetrate just as deep as cat piss. I'm not spraying the stuff on, I've got a gallon jug of cleaner that I'm ready to pour on as long as the blacklight actually works for finding the exact spot.

And even if you can't smell it anymore, no matter how much it's been cleaned, the cat still will be able to find it, and that's their way of jogging up old memories. "Oh yeah, I remember that one time I peed here. Those were some good times. I've really got to do that again sometime. ...Oh hey, I have to pee now!"

I do still miss having cats around though...:\
I just really wish they didn't randomly spew bodily fluids here and there, whether it be vomit or urine. Or use carpets as toilet paper. (The bathroom is the only room in this apartment that isn't carpeted.) Or sneeze all over you.
But other than that, yeah. Fun little critters.

Cat pee is the worst smell, hard to remove too.

In my rental units, you have to most likely replace the carpet when cat piss is extreme.

That's why I currently put in porcelain tiles when a tenant moves out. A cat can't fuck up a tile with its piss or claws.

When I bought my house there was cat urine smell from the previous owner. I had to replace all the upstairs carpet. Nothing else worked.

I have a friend that owns a carpet cleaning business in Iowa. He has told me to use a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water. Wet the spot generously and allow to soak in the pat it dry with a clean cloth or paper towels.

The blacklight bulb I bought was worthless but no biggy, my nose provided a pretty good guide to where the problem was. I poured at least a third of a gallon of NM on the affected areas, go big or go home. I also bought a gallon jug of white vinegar at Costco. Fuck you cat piss!

Pour enough NM or vinegar mix to wet affected area, wait 15 minutes, dab up with terry cloth. repeat 2 or 3 times.

dont just oversoak it and let it sit for too long. oversoaking it and letting it partially dry will usually put the contaminants all the way on the subfloor and spread even further in your padding.

This stuff is excellent.
These are the only products that worked when everything else failed when my dog got skunked. And then proceeded to run in the house and rub himself all over everything.

FWIW, the only real way to alleviate and remove the smell is to remove the affected items. Natures miracle does ok, but they can still find it again no matter how much cleaning you do.

DO NOT use vinegar or ammonia, it may mask it for you but they'll find it and remark. Trust me!! Otherwise, be prepared for a battle because once there is a mark, it's never ending.

Depends how sensitive you are. Personally I would remove the carpet. I can't get it clean enough.

It's just that bad. I've had to throw a bed, couch, and cat away because it decided to not use the litter box.

The only way I could get the smell out of my basement was to paint the concrete floor with an oil based primer. My male cat peed on the carpet which seeped into the concrete below. Tried all sorts of things including tons of Nature's Miracle to no avail. Oil based primer and I was good to go.
