How loyal are cats as pets?

Reason I ask is I found this stray at my work and I brought it home, gave it a bath, fed it some cat food and water. It now just constantly stays outside of my house all day/night. It does wander around however it always comes back to my house. It also comes and greets me when I park my car in the driveway and also greets me when I am ready to leave to work. I feed it three times a day and give it water and play with it throughout the day and when I come home from work.

Are cats usually this loyal meaning they don't just run away and find another home?

I'd say so.. my cat acts the same way that's for sure (greetings and stuff like that)

I've come to realize cats are great pets... I never liked them so much until the GF got one.... I love him to pieces!

Yup. We lived in an apartment once. The hallway would get hot so we'd leave the back entrance open. A cat wandered up that looked identical to one of my cats. Thinking that was cool, I decided to feed it. Well it started coming back when the door was left open and would often greet me when I pulled into the lot. Eventually a neighbor took in the cat.

Can you bring it inside and not let it out?

It will live much longer and be much better off.

Cats will generally adopt a person and will be very loyal to them. They may or may not be friendly to everyone else. (depends on the cat)

It sounds like this cat has adopted you. :)

Loyal if you treat them well. How much are you feeding this cat? My cat is 15 pounds and the vet said to feed him twice a day, 1 cup total (so half cup in the morning and half in the evening). I know he supplements his diet with birds and other creatures which a couple of times he has decided it was best to eat them on the hood of my car...

Cats generally like to leave presents for their pets. I've walked out of my mom's house plenty of times to find a bird or mouse or something sitting on the steps.

Cats aren't loyal like dogs are (dog's will fight to the death to defend you, that's loyalty) But they will be incredibly affectionate if you treat them well.

Yes, that is totally true. The average lifespan for outdoor cats are 3-5yrs, for indoor cats 13+yrs.

If you were to tell me you live on a farm, get your cats their shots regularly and have them fixed I'd be all for it. Unfortunately most people don't live on farms these days.

Yes, they do. There has always been a cat in my family, so I know about the presents. We had one that was a horrible hunter/fighter. I think he had depth perception problems which didn't help. The other cat was a great hunter and we constantly had to make sure she left her catches outside of the house. Well, one time the bad hunter took the dead body of a mouse from the steps and went around the house a came back yowling like he had actually caught it. We couldn't stop laughing at him.

true. dogs are pack animals, and there relationship with their owners are generally less about the food, more about the "pack".
cats on the other hand, they might have a liking to you, but food is usually higher on the list than anything i can think of.
