Cat owners: When does this kitten crap stop?

My cat is about 1 year old (found him in the street when he was very young so I'm not sure exactly how old) He is very into scratching stuff, dragging TP all over the house, shredding paper towels, etc.

Every time I flip out on him, my girlfriend comes back with the excuse "He's just a baby!"

Will this ever end??

Please advise

Thanks

At one year old, your cat is an adult. The behaviour will be hard to change.

If that's the case, he may end up being punted through my picture window!!

of course I'm just kidding!. ... maybe!

Clip nails, or live with it. One of our cats is 6 and still claws at furniture, though she has no fronts, so nothing happens 🙂

My girlfriend also won't let me get him de-clawed 🙁

Children are not evil. Mine is an angle 🙂

I have two cats and one was a stray kitten I took in. He was insane for the first year, and just crazy for the second. He is now 3 and he is better behaved then the other one. I'm afraid you have another year of terror, but it will happen.

One day you will have a fat lazy cat that does nothing, and you will wish for when you had a fun cat that played.

Cats are evil. Like children.

That movie was better than I thought it was going to be. The whole "do it" thing was worth the price of the ticket. 🙂

Well, there is your problem. Get a new GF and de-claw the cat.

gotta see that...

haha, we adopted our cat at age 3, hes great, barely ever does anything like that.. maybe you should trade the cat in 😀

to add to all this, I quit smoking about 3 weeks ago, so I could easly take a life at the drop of a hat!

😉

he does that stuff because he's bored. get him some fun toys, and play with him more. make sure he has a window to look out of during the day (open with a screen is best so they can hear), and put double-stick tape on the stuff he's been scratching to discourage him. it's completely pointless to scold or flip out because cats don't respond to that. dogs like to please you, but cats couldn't care less. if anything, it just makes them angry so they do it more, or they get all traumatized and scared of you. so you have to divert their energy.

edit: also keep in mind that he's still young and has time to mellow. if he's about a year old, he's only like a young teenager. he's more or less grown up but his personality is still wild. so he may calm down with time.

If he's pulling the Toiletpaper off the roll, put a plastic glass on top of the roll. This way if he goes for the TP, he gets a loud noice and hopefully stops after a while.

He has a billion toys, he has many windows to look out of, I'm only home at night and I play with him as much as I can. All he wants to do is sneak into the garage and roll around in the dirt!

Our kitten is the same way. Since we've started letting her outside, it's not nearly as bad.. but I realize that may not be an option for you.

Your GF screwed up by not letting your discipline him. Too late now.

Seriously though, your cat is just bored. Get it some toys and play with it some more... give it more attention.

easy solution....always speak of the cat in negative, mean, threatening tones. then cheat on your girlfriend. she'll leave you and take the cat with her. 2 for the price of 1.

You can get a cat to stop unrolling TP by turning the roll so it goes down the backside (you have to reach underneath to use it.) Clip the tips of his nails so he can't do any damage to other stuff. If you catch him doing something bad, hiss at him. If you want to protect a certain thing from destruction, like a piece of furniture, spray the area with something containing orange oil. They hate citrus.
