Locally we have a situation that is getting ready to go public.

A local motel has 50+ feral cats on its facility. A person from a group similar to "Ally Cat Recue" comes out two to three times a day and feeds these cats at 8 different locations on this property.

Since this cats population (feral colony) at this motel has become a problem and is getting bigger, the hotel management has asked the feeders to stop feeding the cats and to stay off of the property, in the hopes of getting the local authorities to come remove the cats for the local authorities will not be able to remove the cats as long as they are being fed.

The feeder start picketing this location with signs such as "hotel name Kills Cats"

It is the hotels concern that a patron may be bitten by a cat, finding the guilty cat is impossible ... victim may need to get rabies shots; and is also concerned with other diseases being transmitted to patrons. Not to mention all of the cat feces in areas not paved / cemented.

The feeders states that the feral colony, if removed, will only be replaced by moire cats, and that the cats deserve to live, for I assume that if the local authorities catch the cats that they will be euthanized.

What side do you agree with?

I agree with the hotel on this one (though normally I'd side in favor of the cats). They have the right to do what they need to to serve their customers.

Agreed to that. It sounds like the rescue group is taking on a PETA mentality in this situation. If the group is a true cat rescue group, they would assist with the following:

- Placing the cats into foster care.
- Getting the cats spayed/neutered
- Etc.

Unfortunately, the cats ,while being fed, are not being served by these sorts of handouts There are contraceptive drugs that some rescue groups put in the food to reduce the numbers. These so called do gooders are misguided.

thats ridiculous. it doesnt matter what kind of animal, when you have that many strays in one location, it becomes a nuisance with too much potential for disaster. i wonder how long these "concerned citizens" have been feeding these cats, and just how much it has contributed to the problem. everyone knows you dont feed a stray unless you plan on making it your own, as its hard to get rid of any animal once you do.

besides, why the bleeding heart for some worthless cats? im sure if it was a pack of dogs, they would be dealt with immediately wtih no fanfare. and i agree with alien and tiles. if this group really cared, why dont they take the cats in and find some homes for the them.

The rescue group will get shot down quickly if these cats are really all feral. True feral cats cannot be saved in any way. They must be euthanized.

Is that really a problem? When do you go play in the grass at a motel anyway? It's less gross than the sticky sheets they problem have. And cats bury their crap anyway. If there were feral DOG colonies, damn we'd be screwed, it'd be EVERYWHERE.

I'm a BIG cat lover, and I side with the motel. Why? Because the cat feeder is only making the problem worse by feeding them, causing the size of the feral cat population to increase. He should know better. Had he been a real cat lover, he would have removed the population while it was still small and gotten them all into rescue homes, problem solved for everyone. Now that he has fed them and given them the resources to breed and increase, the only solution is that quite a few will have to be euthanized 🙁 , and I blame him :|

It is not that people are playing in the grass, just imagine it is your house these 50+ cats are living and you had as many visitors (some with children of all ages) as this hotel does ... Do you see the problem now? and you are personally liable for any injuries that occur on your property.

Cats have been a problem by running into rooms when the doors were open.

If you and your 5 year old child was staying at this motel and your child decided to pick up one of these pretty kittys and was bitten or scratched, then that child was possibly exposed to Rabies. The cat that bit him most likely will never be caught and tested and now as a parent you have to decided whether to have you child treated for rabies (which consists of 12 shots to the bite area) or you could chose not to have your child treated, in which case if the cat that bitten your child was rabid then your child will die a painful death. Its's your choice

I understand the rescue group loves cats, but to picket this hotel is just outrageous.

I agree, you are right. My only point was that the issue of them pooping was ridiculous.

THE CATS ARE FERTILIZING MY PLANTZ OH THE NOES!!
