Cat Hair...

I've been wanting to get a cat for a good while now but my roommates continue to shut down the idea. Their main objection is cat hair. Is there anything I can do (besides constant brushing/grooming) to lessen the amount of hair shed?

According to Mr. Tinkles, cats don't shed just leave loving reminders of themselves.
