Our cat,Miss Kitty,is 18 months old, she has always favored my husband, seeking him out for attention, sitting in his lap etc while snubbing me.

I've been pretty sick this week, and spent a lot of time sleeping on the sofa.I frequently half wake up to see her, stealthily checking to see if I'm sleeping, she then creeps under the covers and curls up behind my bent knees on the sofa, alternatively, she creates a dip in the blanket and settles in the depression and nests like a little cat hen.

She lies there alternating between kneading behaviors, sleeping and purring.I think it's
charming but it is quite uncharacteristic behavior from this cat, what's up with her?

Simple, she is happy there is someone at home with her during a time when she is normally alone.

Edit: Our cats do this whenever one of us is home sick. Sometimes even our beagles get in on the quality sofa nap time.

Wasn't there a dog that curled up next to people that were about to pass on?

My GF says its beacuse she knows you have not been feeling well and she is trying to comfort you. She works at a vet but I would not call her a expert.

My experience is that cat's get lonley and some also have a strong maternial drive. She is taking care of you. Give her extra attention and a couple of treats.

You're sick so you are running a higher temp.

Cats like to sleep on/next to warm things.

Where's my cookie?

Whenever one of us gets sick, the animals are attracted to us. One of our cats hates me to death, won't get anywhere near me 99% of the time. (Incident with a lighter..don't ask). But whenever I get sick, even if it's just a head cold with a cough, the cat is all over me. Curled up next to me on the couch, in my lap in the chair, whatever. I think they just have a sixth sense for these kinds of things.

my cat did the same thing when someone was sick. I think she just liked being around someone quiet and peaceful.

She's tenderizing you by massaging you, then she's waiting for you to die so she can eat you.

I agree with her ... every cat I've ever had has done this when I wasn't feeling well.

Not just some unexplained, woo-woo sixth sense, but more of an increased sensitivity to smell, temperature, body language, and who knows what else than fully exists in the physical world.

But totally agreed -- cats (and dogs) notice and react supportively to their owners when they're sick.

I've been around cats all my life, and the only thing I can say with confidence about their behavior is that they're all unique. One of my cats was always empathetic to me and also other cats, but the other is almost completely selfish.

One of my cats would always run into the room when I played the piano, and he always sits next to me. He doesn't do this when anyone else plays the piano.

Cats are unique. That's about all I can say.

She's looking for a dutch oven. At least that's what we say about our cat that sneaks under the blankets. We happily oblige

Agreed. I love dogs, too, but there are a limited number of dog personalities. But every cat is different.

I'm no cat expert but my wife and I have 5 indoor cats! We have always noticed that if one of us is sick, they tend to flock around that person. I believe it is because they know that you are not feeling well and they just want to comfort you.

she is a comfort in her own odd little way,it's really funny watching her stealth moves in getting the under the covers while trying to be really sure I'm not awake,I must say it feels rather strange waking up feverish, thinking you're halluncinating because there's purring going on down around your butt:)

The "someone home unusually" MAY be part of it, or it may be that she KNOWS you're not feeling well and she's "mothering" you. Not unusual. The "Kneading" is a normal cat thing...softens up where she's laying. ;)

I don't know any cat that doesn't love sleeping in the behind the knees "bowl".

Our new kitten actually favors the person that is most away. When I am home all weekend, she barely gives me the time of day. During the week when I get home late it is the opposite, to the point of being annoying.
