Very nice place, I'm in.

Check out the other pictures, it's a pretty cool facility. The idea behind it used to be you gave them your sick cat and X dollars (it's was extremely reasonable...like $300 for non fatal conditions and if your cat was fatal then it was free).

They took care of them forever. In the beginning they allowed adoptions of the the non-dying ones

They need a lot of help though...I have been out there a few times and everytime it's surreal in a way.

They break out the cats into separate pens that are maybe 500-1000 sqft and it's all screened so they get a nice amount of air. Each wall is lined with shelves so just about every cat can find a nice spot. They also have a wooden pen in the middle of each so during cold weather (or rain but most stay out in the rain they found) they can go inside and get warm.

Each litter box is changed daily....it's a huge undertaking as there are about 100 cats in each pen. There is a special pen for kittens and another for those with feline aids/hiv etc.

They are doing a lot of research with University of Florida and the head vet of our local zoo.

They were also the group that helped to save 'Chipper' I posted about a while ago. He was the little kitten that someone ran through a wood chipper. He was pretty mangled. If it weren't for a brain abscess that developed he would have made it.

People get the wrong idea about animal charities. I donate to people as well. Recently I was in a Habitat for Humanity. Those are a pretty neat deal.

Anyway if people can just send even 50 cents it goes a long way

I emailed them to ask if that money could be put towards euthanization of said cats instead.

Oh man. You're hilarious. Seriously. You deserve a big pat on the back over that one..

Who said that was supposed to be funny. I would gladly donate for an euthanization so cat lovers can start putting the pressure on the breeders instead of on those with money and sympathy.

SunnyD, why are you such a douchebag? Hopefully, if you ever post a "donate to/help this organization" post other people will shit all over it like you're doing here.

Because if people can't handle the pets they have, they should never have gotten them in the first place. Hence if there is less demand, there would be less bred. If there's less bred, the stray population goes down, and we won't have all these bleeding heart idiots trying to soak us for money in order to encourage exactly the type of behavior I would prefer see prevented in the first place.

And yes, I would just as soon donate to a cause that provided sterility for humans within certain standards for exactly the same reason. Because I'm such a heartless bastard like that and all.

The cats in these and virtually all shelters are incapable of breeding (because they are neutered) and as such, your statement above does not seem relevant to this program. Furthermore, there are "TNR" programs for ferals - trap, neuter, release. If you are opposed to allowing pets to breed while there is an ever-increasing supply of cats due to irresponsible owners, I would think you would favor the programs that neuter pets with your money. For what it's worth, I agree with your premise, but not your conclusion. Euthanizing pets after they are born is not a way to prevent over-population or breeding. You prevent that by neutering pets and reducing the number of permitted breeders.

troll rage!

I don't think you thought out this argument. This organization is taking the cats off the streets not promoting breeding.

No one is trying to soak you for money...seriously in all likelihood you are best served keeping what little you have.
