MAY 2009 NEWSLETTER
Dear Cat Lovers:
We need volunteers to spend 2 hours working at their own home If you are reading this newsletter, we know you have access to the web ? and are probably doing so at your home. Can you help us?
We?ve developed an internet marketing plan to raise money so that we can help people who have lost their jobs and can no longer afford to keep their cats. The plan uses the social networking sites of YouTube, MySpace, and Facebook to reach a lot of animal lovers who will make small donations to us so we can build more space to house these cats and to provide proper care for them once they arrive.
Simply, the plan asks you to make a small $10 donation and then we ask you to contact 10 of your friends to do the same. Hopefully, your 10 friends will also ask 10 of their friends, etc.
If enough friends of friends of friends etc. respond with $10 donations we can raise enough money to accomplish our goal ? which is to raise $21,000 to build new housing for 140 cats that don?t have any place else to go. Yes, we have to reach a lot of people who are willing to make a $10 donation, but we think ? even in this terrible economy ? we can raise the necessary funds.
And that?s where you come in. We need you, not just to donate $10 (or more), but to spend a couple of hours on your phone, or by sending email, or by contacting your friends on YouTube, MySpace, and Facebook and tell them about our sanctuary and our willingness to take these cats ? if they?ll help out by making a small donation to us.
Even in these tough times, most people can still afford a $10 donation.
Get your children, the children of your friends, and any college students (who are all likely to be on You Tube, MySpace or Facebook) to contact their friends, too!
We?ve created a video that is now on-line at
our website, www.10thlife.org/10vid1.html
YouTube www.youtube.com/10thlife
MySpace www.myspace.com/tenthlifesanctuary and
FaceBook at www.facebook.com/pages/10th-Life-Sanctuary-Inc/32321774986 .
You or your friends do not have to be signed up on these sites in order to access our video? but you are welcome to become our ?friend? on our site if you do sign up.
The video shows many of the cats at the sanctuary and tells the viewer that we?ve been getting a lot of calls from people who beg me to take their cats?telling me that if I can?t take them they?ll have to put their cats down. They tell me that they?ve lost their jobs or lost their homes. They tell me they have tried and tried to place their cats, but all the rescue groups are full (which is pretty much true). And, they?ve tried to place their cats with friends, relatives or neighbors ? to no avail.
These are extremely emotional calls. Often, the caller is in tears, not knowing what to do, not wanting to put their cat(s) down. I get 2-3 calls like this every day (on top of the calls from people who want me to take the kittens they?ve just found?).
As you may know, we have not been taking new cats since June/July 2008 because donations have been down and we are at our maximum capacity (i.e., we?re full). I hate turning cats away, but in order to take them, we need to have additional housing and the funding to care for them.
Will you help and reach out to your friends ? and ask them to do the same?
You are one of the 1,000 people we are asking to start the ball rolling. If everyone participates and gets 10 of their friends to donate we will have enough to build the housing and provide the necessary care.
Please find some time -- a couple of hours ? and have your friends look at our video and then follow up a few days later and ask if they donated (-- push them if they didn?t)! Once a week I?ll send an updated email to all who have donated so everyone will know where we stand. And, once the construction money is in, I?ll build the housing as quickly as I can.
We can save these cats. But we need your help.
I know the video could look a lot better, but we not professional movie makers? we?re cat people! We made the movie ourselves and, while it?s not ?Hollywood? pretty, the message is clear ? which was our goal.
Let me know what you think of the video ? and the marketing plan!
