while working on the yard today I heard a weird crunching sound coming from behind me. It was my cat chewing on what looked to be a hamster......someone's looking for a hamster in vain.

Why the heck do cats do that? During the summer the same cat will often bring semi live lizards into house and just let it lose.
They're hunters and they bring their kill back to their "family". Consider it an act of kitty love. My cat caught killed and ate 1/2 a dove for breakfast last summer and brought the other half in for me..... mmmmm gullet, thanks..... my favorite! :disgust:

lol.. this is why we don't let our cat outside ^^ And, FYI, that "my favorite" part gave me a nice laugh to end my evening.

If you reject their offering in any way then the cat will often go out and try and catch something bigger thinking that their offering was not good enough!

I vote to BAN the next person who makes any reference to Badgers/mushrooms...

Oh, beware the mother snake may be looking for her baby 😀😉

I'm glad you caught that one 🙂
We live on a third floor condo and the only "outside" she gets is the balcony. How she managed to get in a position to bring down that bird and not jump over the balcony to the courtyard below, again(!), never ceases to amaze me.

Enjoy the present and thank your cat. It is said that leaving "presents" by a cat shows great devotion and affection by the animal. We get a lot of moles, field mice, and the like from our indoor/outdoor cats. But they never leave a lizard....those are always consumed when caught, unfortunately. Wish we could break them of the lizard habit....the little guys are great bug eaters.

In a somewhat related vein, we have an outdoor stray that hangs around who, while really never leaving presents, has remarkable skill as a huntress. Just before Thanksgiving she delivered 5 kittens...........which luckily all turned into Christmas presents for us, luckily. (We'd get her spayed but she won't let us pick her up without shredding....). Anyway, the day before she delivered her brod, she caught a squirrel that was almost as big as she is. Amazing she could move like that at all!
