While I also don't watching cats torture their prey, its nature and I wouldn't do anything to discourage the behavior. Cats are good pets, but I also like mine to keep the critters out of my house as well.

Not really. We had two finches when we first got our kittens. Hobbes, Pigpen, and Missy were constantly going after the cage. Pigpen kept jumping on top of the bird cage and sticking his little paw in between the bars to swipe at them. We ended up having to give the finches away.

My friend's cat used to be badass. He would always leave stuff behind "the bush." The biggest thing we ever saw him leave back there was a possum. Squirrels, birds, small dogs, other cats. They were all fair game for George the Demon Cat.
