Dammit, I checked for these before I left for work today. They must have released them as soon as I turned on my car to leave. 😛

I had some installation issues:

First I unistalled Cat 4.12, used driver cleaner etc..

I installed Cat 5.1 and CCC, my CSS (i didnt try any other games) performance was much lower than normal. (Sub 30 FPS)

Uninstalled CCC, and reinstalled Cat 5.1 with normal control panel and things seem to be working fine again.

I always seem to have problems with CCC, wierd.

I think they made some slight improvements to CCC this time. At least the interface, because when you click on something like a tab, the response is pretty fast. It used to take like a second to react. And it hasn't crashed yet. So unlike the previous versions of CCC, I will keep this one rather than the Control Panel. Sucks that its CLI.EXE seems to be constantly taking ~8 mb of RAM, though.

Guys, there is more to this driver release than the CCC (piece o shite that it is). How are the drivers compared to the 4.12s? In games that is. And did ATI turn on WMV Acceleration?

If you don't like CCC why not go with Omega drivers?

http://www.omegadrivers.net/

Omega is a beta tester for the Catalyst team and he's incorporated his own control panel bundled with Radlinker (to hell with CCC). Very nice drivers in my opinion......

Heres a quote from Terry Makedon of ATI:

"ATI supports the enthusiast community wholly. Omega Drivers are in fact a good example of ATI's user community at its best. What they are in principle are CATALYST drivers with different settings enabled via registry keys and other such methods. This provides users an alternative to ATI's CATALYST default settings. While there are a few different modification drivers out in the community our relationship with the creator of the Omega Drivers is of the highest working standard. The author of these drivers is part of the CATALYST beta driver testing team and also in direct contact with ATI. In fact we would go so far as to say that if a user chooses to go the mod driver route they go with the Omega Drivers."

this seems to be a consolidation release, only bug fixes and a few days ago on the driverheaven forums it was noted that the CCC is a bit faster, and i can vouch for this, it does seem a little faster. Good work ATI!

I stopped using the CCC,last time I used it (4.11s) my refresh rate was stuck at 60Hz in BNC mode, anyway less bloated without the CCC and no refresh rate problems for me 🙂,btw yes I too used Driver Cleaner.

Bottom line is I`m not going to use the new CCC until I have too.
