I don't know about you guys but my insurance company doesn't cover me if I'm driving drunk. I suspect most insurance policies have clauses that gets them out of paying if your doing stuff you shouldn't(driving drunk, take your car to a race track etc).

I asked him that same question. He said:

My car was fine, luckily. But only because I went grocery shopping and that white car took my spot before I got back!

Funny thing too, because I had just gotten insurance that morning and denied uninsured motorist coverage. Umm, I'm putting it back on, now ;)

edit: btw, this was my co-worker's site. My car wasn't involved.

I think the insruance still has to pay out to other vicitims off your druken driving it is just that full coverage would be void if you are drunk.

You have 4 levels of fault in an incident: you are not at fault, you are negligent, your are reckless, and you did so intentionally.

Drunk driving/under the influence of drugs usually gets listed at intentional so the insurance will not pay out (same is true if you run someone down criminally)...it does punish the victims, but at the same time it's hard to argue that insurance should be responsible for someone doing something illegally.

Most people in no-fault states assume that the other driver is covering accidents but it's a little more complicated than that.

Also insurance *can* pay out on a drunk driving case....it depends what their plan is. If damages are severe enough, the insurer may elect to get an intentional fault verdict and be excluded from responsibility.

how do you hit 19 cars like that?...sheesh...

He probably clipped a couple cars and went out of control, hitting other cars, and other cars hit the other cars and what not.

wow. :Q
