My g/f is doing a report on birth control and the resistance that it receives from the religious right wackos. This is one book that she brough home for references.

It's great. It has a pink cover and the ONLY words in capital letters are CASUAL SEX KILLS. That phrase must have been repeated 20 times in 80 pages.

According to the book, the only way to avoid Aids(by having sex) is to wait to marry a "pure" person who was a virgin.

No form of protection is 100%. Abstinence is 100%. This is just basic logic. Abstinence is the safest method.. period.

Could you please name another method that is 100% sure, besides abstinence, that will prevent you from acquiring HIV?

casual sex is good, i mean there is nothing wrong with sex, as long as you are fairly sure your partner is clean. i know thats not near 100% protected but i aint gunna let it stop me. you only live once 🙂

Yes abstinence is the *guaranteed* way to prevent an STD of any sort, but casual sex and STD's aren't mutually inclusive.

I know MANY people, including myself, who have had *GASP* casual sex and are perfectly clean.

Let some freak on drugs mug you and hurt you with his used syringe...ooops again...

I think you can catch aids by more ways than just sex. Blood transfusion, infected mother,shared needles, a dentist visit. Abstinence until after marriage is still not safe. I'm careful but I dont let it control me, everyone dies, not everyone truly lives...

Perhaps some of the far rights wording is archaic but the point still stands, abstinence is full proof.

You implied that the messge was wrong, it isn't. The only sure way of not catching HIV from a sexual partner is to not have sex.

Doctorweir, the difference is between things that you have control over and those that you do not. You have control over whom you have sex with.

There are no guarantees in life except that at the end of it you will die. It is up to you to decide what risks are worth it to you.


 
67: Ok, I got your point...I just meant there are other ways...you should be able to control your sex life, of course, and not f*ck around like an animal without consideration of the consequences...

Anyway, I personally prefer proper relationships compared to one-night-stands...but I wouldn't want to stay a virgin until I marry another virgin...come on, life should be at lest a little fun.
But don't get me wrong, it's just my opinion...if someone else with a different culture or religion has another view of this point, I fully understand it and won't bother her/him for this...also I think we had enough threads about this in the past...🙂

I agree with you dr. to an extent.

When people are not careful with their sex lives and spread it to many others.. and then my tax dollars goes to take care of these people who have made terrible decisions.. it pisses me off.

Sort of like government subsidization of abortions.. femists arguing that depriving a minority woman of a paid for abortion is an act of discrimination is just garbage. Because my tax dollars go to paying something I am almost entirely opposed to.

You want your abortion? Pay for it yourself. You want to be careless and have unsafe sex freely? Accept the responsibilities that result.
 
You are NOT going to get the HIV virus from a blood transfusion, not nowdays, excepting you are in some remote third-world location that does not screen their blood supply.
