I never thought that the man would admit to that! I would have expected him just to blame the (frivolous) American embargo for all of Cuba's woes.

He's right. Only North Korea is a "true" communist country. Even there, it's more like a weird blend of Stalinism and National Socialism. Cuban society is still technologically backwards and I think they know they can't keep antagonizing the west forever.

I think you'll see Cuba transition more to a populist socialism like Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nicaragua. Still state controlled but more open to free enterprise and opposition.

Cuba has the potential to become quite wealthy if they play their cards right. I wouldn't be surprised to see it turn into a China or Vietnam.
