CASP8-Race

We have a golden opportunity for fun: the CASP8-race. Please read about it at the rosetta or POEM-sites.
Someone 😉 suggested a race within the TeAm AnandTech DC community.

I am proposing the following idea:

1. The race is similar to the Folding@home Holiday Season Race
2. The race will in BOINC-projects only - because it is hard to compare Folding@home with the BOINC-projects.
3. The projects in question are just now Rosetta@home and POEM. If other folding projects using BOINC participate we can add those too.
4. The race runs for 1 month, e.g. from June 1 to June 30. CASP8 runs from May 5 (when the first targets were released) to August 1 (when the race will be closed).
5. Racers register in this thread using their TA-name and the project they want to race in.
6. I will do the stats, and I will also try to balance the teams - as we do in the Folding@home race.
7. There are differences between the project's way to calculate credits. In this thread we will discuss how to compensate for these differences in a respectful and gracious manner.
8. If one of the racers makes one of the best predictions (which will be mentioned on Rosetta's or POEM's site) that racers points will be multiplied by 10 and credited to his/her team.

These are ideas. They are free for discussion.

Please remember that this is for the fun first, the science second, the honor and glory of TeAm Anandtech third and the honor and glory of the cruncher fourth!

Please respond!

Edit:
The racers (as of May 9, 2008):
___ POEM _______ Rosetta _______ unattached
RudyToody _____ jonesthewine ____ Alyx
biodoc _____________ ___________ Petrusbroder
Neurodog

Let the list grow!

They are long fellows.

I'm in for POEM@Home.

I wouldn't read your poems... 😉

OK. I'll take you off the list for the signed first editions.

I hear that if you can find an unsigned one it is actually worth something 😉

And, signed or unsigned, if you recycle the books they will be made into something useful.

Hmmmm, I thought I had started a race thread ... But there are only four racers ... 🙁
Any more crunchers wanting to take part?

I'm not sure what project to support in this race...

I'm going to support POEM for several reasons:

1) they tried last year and didn't have enough crunch to solve much.
2) they want 64bit OS which is all I've got.
3) Rosetta already has a great TeAm presence on the project.
4) It will be fun crunching for the underdog.
5) The POEM-athon should be fun.

Good enough reasons for me!
