Casino chips in the church offering

There are more Catholic churches than casinos in Las Vegas.

Not surprisingly, some worshipers at Sunday services will give casino chips rather than cash when the basket is passed. Since they get chips from many different casinos, the churches have devised a method to collect the offerings.

The churches send all their collected chips to a nearby Benedictine monastery for sorting. Then the chips are taken to the casinos of origin and cashed in. This is done by the chip monks.

hah

Do the monks actually go to the casinos to cash them in? I thought they werent supposed to leave the monastery?

It's very possible it's not a joke. The thing about collecting casino chips during Sunday mass is true. I've been to church a handful of times in Vegas and they welcome chip donations.

With the exception of the "chip monks", everything else is true.

There are more churches than casinos. I do not know about Catholic chuches, but I would believe that.
Some areas of town have a "church" on every decent size block.

There are more churches persona than anywhere else in the US.

Churches do get chips - however, the amount of chips is minimal.

A lay person that handles the funds will go to the appropriate casino to convert the chips.
For most chuches, it would only be 3-4 casinos that they would have chips for. Based on local geography.

well I figured it had to be a joke...no WAY there are more churches than casinos in LV

I don't know...I figure the confession lines would be too long every morning to accomodate only a few churches....
