Cashing in Target GCs

Howdy,

We've got 4 or 5 $50 Gift Certificates to Target that we planned to use to buy a new TV. But Sears has it for less. AFAIK, Target does not have a PM policy, so we need to exchange the GCs for cash. I am considering buying the TV at Target, then returning it saying that we found it for less at Sears. My question is, if we return an item that was bought using mostly Visa with some GCs, do they credit the whole amount to your Visa or do they give out GCs instead? I'd sure hate to end up with even more Target GCs than we have now, LOL.

I've already posted this question to the "How Do I" thread in Hot Deals. If this counts as a rude double post, then I apologize. Any answers I get, I will post to the other thread.

I'm pretty sure they would refund you in store credit for the GCs and whatever you paid with the Visa would be refunded to the Visa.

I think you will get the amt you paid with your visa back onto your visa, and what you paid on gift card, back onto gift card. Only difference is, instead of 4 you would probably get one back.

Nah. I missed that one as well 🙁. Anand could make some cash by selling a Super Alert service where folks where instantly notified on really hot deals.

Anyway, we got these from the Baby thing/test drive. 4 or 5 times 😉

Well my wife (the <b>real</b> shopper in the family) agrees with y'all that we are not gonna be able to trade the GCs for cash. I guess the way to think about it is that we got the GCs for free (other than some driving around, filing out forms, stamps and envelopes), so it's not like we are really spending more at Target.

Just hate to miss out on a possible savings. 😉

Target does have a PM policy, just not around the holiday season - at least thats how mine works here.

You could always sell the giftcertificates in the for sale/trade forum here at Anandtech. You won't get the exact amount of the GC though.

Thanks for the idea, Nocturnal. About what percent might they go for? 90?

 

Usually GCs go for 80% - 90% of their value on the forums. 🙂

That was a super smokin' Hot Deal, we did it a few times and ended up with $300 in Target GC's 😛

I'd say you could easily sell those GC's for 80% of their value.
