i am wondering if anyone has any of the old cases that are about 2.5 feet tall. they are huge, but i am going to build a kick ass internal watercooling system and I need some extra space. any one have any other sugjestions for a case for this purpose?
thankyou for your replys. im also planning on doing some research with peltier effects for cooling and power generation. so i want something that is easy to change things inside. thankyou.

There are many cases that will suit your needs. Just think full-tower and balance it with how much you want to spend. If you want to get fancy, have the case cut (or cut it yourself) for things like rads.

CM Stacker

Supports up to 11 5inch bays, and you can see from the frontal pic with the face off that it easily will hold even a BlackIce ExtremeIII radiator if you wanted, although for 1/3 the price you can buy a modded heatercore that will cool just as well.

Edit- I thought you could remove a section of the mounts for the 5.25 inch drives, but you can't. I'm not entirely sure you could mount the radiator on the front without getting out the dremel.

It's got mounts for 2 power supplies already, and enough space at the bottom for a reservoir and the meanwell S320-12.

But, it's still around $150, and a lot more than that at Newegg. I'm slowly assembling parts for my own peltier experiment, and this case is on the list.

It took me months to settle on a case for my water cooling setup, but in the end I decided to drop the $$ and get a UFO case. It's f#@king huge, but has plenty of space to put what ever you want in it.

damn, i wish i had seen this case before i bought my lian li 1200.

the 1200 is a very nice case too. don't get me wrong, but this stacker case looks awesome.

if i ever have to build a server for anyone, this stacker case will be the first on my list.

You can fit water cooling gear in most cases, you just have to be creative. Here's some pics of my setup in a kingwin 424 standard mid tower.

I have the radiator in the top 3 5.25 inch bays and the pump is in the floppy drive bay area. I have used antec's fileserver cases for water cooling in the past and they work well too. I'm not a fan of huge full towers, I like my comps normal sized 🙂.

They really need to make a water cooled case IMO. My ideal case would have 4x 120mm fans at the rear, all at 5V. One for special PSU which chambers with hard drives/cd's in front. And three for RAD which chambers mobo in front. Of course this would nessitate some sort of sneakey cable job since the I/O for mobo would now be in middle of the case.. Guess I'll have to do it myself someday.

In the meantime I'd just get this:

Much easier than hacking.

It's a nice case, Zebo. But it still sports 3/8 inch ID tubing which requires careful matching of blocks to perform almost as well as run-of-the-mill 1/2 inch ID blocks. Don't get me wrong, 3/8 isn't bad, it just doesn't have the performance metrics of 1/2 inch under most circumstances.

An H20 system can be installed in a mid-sized case, but in most cases it's a lot easier in a case that's on the larger size. Since you mention wanting to change things in and out relatively often, a larger case definitely seems to be the way to go. The Stacker works great for me, but the looks and sheer size of it are an acquired taste. (It's not as tall as some full towers, but it's very long.) The larger Lian-Lis are good options, and for something a little less expensive a lot of people have had good experiences with the Antec Plus Series, although those are somewhat limited by the 80mm fan mounts.

Do you know what type of cooling equipment you're going to drop in there yet? Most rads, especially those of the "kick ass" variety take 120mm fans at a minimum.

i was thinking about using a transmission cooler. i am going to use what ever i can find, nothing that will cost a lot, yes, i do want at least 120 mm fans on my rad. im going to collect parts for a while going with 1/2 inch tubing and a large tank, think fish tank. i do like the stacker case a lot. it looks like it would be a lot of fun to mod. i would put a plex window in the side, mabye keep the mesh screen, but center it more, and put the rad. behind that. run clear hoses, blacklights to make the water glow,(just put hilghter ink in it) im not realy sure what kind of stuff in it, amd or intel? not really sure.
