case recomendations

Im doing a new build.
Normally i would keep my old tower but when i did my last build i found i almost couldn't mount my gpu because it was so long. I left the hard drive slots next to the gpu open so i could add the power connector.

So i am looking for a case that is an ATX mid tower, from looking at other posts i saw the cm690. Anything else like this out there worth while or is that the best?

Budget:

I have no issue spending over $200 if i can keep the case for my next few builds. If it is a one time use then i would like to keep it under $100 with no PSU and under $150 with a psu.

Requirments:

Mid ATX (using a standard ATX mobo)

Things i would like
Interior dimensions should accomdate 8inch long video card for SLI or xfire.
USB/Audio front panel to be located near the top and front of the tower. (though i can manufacture a mount in the top bay if it dosent come that way)
Places to mount top and side case fans. Also a place for a fan to blow over the hard drives no matter their orientation though i like the idea of the side to side hard drive bays.
Ready to take water cooling components or comes with water cooling which i intend to used on my next build.

Things it dosent matter if they are there or not.
LEDs
Window
Color dosent matter, if i don't like the color i'll buy a can or two of spray paint. (and ill be careful about the groundings)

CM590 would work as well, I would think...until you throw another hard drive cage in there. CM690 is a good choice though.
 
I noticed with the newer cases that the ahrddrive rack is turned across the case. How does this affect cooling. On one of the full tower giga cases there is a pair of fans directed across the hard drive section. Are there any mid size towers with this fan design?

They work fine for me. I've had two cases that has done it in this side mounted hard drive configuration and all of them have worked out fine.
 
You didn't mention a budget - I was going to suggest an Ultra m998, it is over $100, but not as much over as it once was. You can get the 590 if you want your drives front to rear. Lots of decent cases out there if we had a bit more data to go by: budget, color, window, door, etc.? The more data we have, the better our suggestions can be. Best to come up with a short list and let us pick them apart.

Well, the m998 should last thru as many builds as you care to keep it (assuming reasonable care is taken of it). Perhaps one of the Silverstone Kublai series or even a Rosewill R5605 - which would probably last a long time (you can tell from the weight - quality steel and plenty of it).

i THINK BOTH OF THE cm MID TOWERS mentioned would be nice !! i've done several build w/ coolermaster centurian 5 cases & they are good to work with & cheaper !!
Da'Egg has the Antec 900 for $80 AMIR which seems to be a builder favorite !!
I may order one of the 900's for my own next build !!!
Don't overlook Sunbeam [they have multiple 12omm fans] Raidmax Smildoon, Apevia case.. Read some builder reviews @ Da'Egg....

I got a CM690.

I got a few extra fans for it just for entertainment vaule. I found these

COOLER MASTER R4-L2S-122B-GP 120mm 4 BLUE LED
Air Flow: 39.77 CFM
Noise Level: 19.3 dBA

Looked like a good deal.

$10 a pair at the Egg.

Avoid the CM 120mm LED fans! They have very noticeable motor noise and should not be used if you want a quiet computer! I've used a good 4 of them myself from back in 2005 as well as a recent 2008 fan and each of them as crappy as the one before. Save some money and get some Yate Loon D12SL-12s with no LEDs because they use soft plastic compared to the clear, hard plastic that the LED fans use. AVOID LED FANS!
