Case & PS reccomendation: I'm building a new rig

OK I'm building a rig with an emphasis on gaming. This is what I'll have inside

DFI motherboard of some sort
Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice) O/c'd moderately on air.
74gb Raptor HD
160gb WD HD
NEC DVD burner
X800XL or 6800GT (still deciding) (o/c'd moderately, no mods to card)
wireless NIC card
audigy sound card

I want something relatively quiet and not too expensive although obviously I don't want junk. What case would you guys reccomend and what PS? Also, assuming I get a quality PS, what kind of power should I look for? I don't plan on doing the double video card thing but if I did, how much more power would I need?

I'm hoping to get the Case and PS for 125ish total.

I'm in a similar situation. Going to build, but trying to wait for Venice core as well as 64-bit XP Pro. Here is what I want to put together:

MSI K8N Neo4 (Not sure if I will go SLI or not)
Athlon 64 3500+ or higher (Venice)
74gb Raptor SATA 10,000 rpm
160gb Maxtor HD
Sony CD/RW
PCI-X video card (not sure which to get)

I just don't know how big a power supply I need for the above. Looking at Kensai's build and assuming he stuck with the 430w that comes with the Antec Plusview1080 it looks like that is enough even for an SLI setup. I hate to ASSUME anything though. 🙂

I recently used the SLK3700-BQE from Antec for a new computer at my office and I love it. Only $65 and it's the quietest case I've had. It comes with a 350w power supply which is fine for my office pc which just uses an nforce2 board w/onboard video and a 3000xp.

Would 350w be enough for the above build? I have no plans to OC.

For current systems, its more about the total Amp the PSU has on its 12V rail(s), rather than its total Wattage.

As long as the PSU you choose has at least a total of 25A on the 12V rail(s), your Athlon64 system'll will run stably.

If you're on a budget, then you may want to consider the Antec Super LanBoy Case, and the Antec TruepowerII PSU from 430W all the way to the 550W. 🙂

any specific reccomendations on cases or PS? I'm looking for price/performance. I was thinking of the Antec True Power 2.0 430 watt but I'm wondering if there is something cheaper. Also I'm pretty much lost on cases. I want it to be relatively quiet and cool for overclocking.

Pretty much THE quiet and cool combo:

Antec SLK-3000B case and a Seasonic S12 PSU. Both recommended by Silent PC Review-- The quiet PC gurus.

I still think the Seasonic S12 is way over priced. Antec TPII 430 will be more than enough for your needs. It even comes w/ PCIe power in case you need it. You won't get that connector on the Seasonic S12 until you get up to the 500W and 600W which are $150 and $160. Insane.

I do like the SLK3000B case though. Gonna switch out the included antec adjustable 120mm for a pair of non-adjustable, non-thermal 120mms.

SVC.com has the Antec TPII 430W for $77 btw.

Thanks, I ended up going with both the case and ps you reccomended. Any reccomendation on a front case fan to put in the 3000b? It comes with a rear but not front and it takes 120mm-25mm. I want quiet up front since it's closer to my ears than the rear fan. Also any suggestion on a good inexpensive heat sink/fan combo for a 3200+ venice on a dfi UT board? I will be o/c

Any suggestions on a good inexpensive 120mm fan for the front intake? I want quiet. Also is there a specific place I can get it that has a good price (free shipping?)

Coolermaster makes a reasonably quiet 12cm fans with good airflow.

I would suggest GlacialTech SilentBlade 120mm (950RPM, 37CFM, 19dB) fan!
http://www.glacialtech.com/pdf/12025.pdf

I have compared that GT SilentBlade 120mm fan against Nexus 120mm fan. The sound level were about same (I did not notice any difference between them), but GlacialTech moved a lot of more air than Nexus. GlacialTech is also cheaper.

After that comparision (I did that comparision at work) I did bought to myself GT 120mm fan.

I have also ordered myself that Antec SLK3000B case.

But I have not decided PSU yet. I'm right now between Antec TruePower II 430W and Fortron BlueStorm 500W (really 460W).

Hard to beat Antec SLK-3000B or an Evercase 42x2 with an XClio 450 PSU - has all the bases covered as long as you value functionality over looks...

Good 120mm are pretty pricey. Jab-Tech.com is a very reputable vendor. You can always put the louder fan in the back and the fan that comes w/ the case in the front. The duct that comes w/ the case really works too.
