Case Painting

I'm interested in painting my case, as it looks pretty dull in its current white state. Could anyone who has painted a case before provide me with some information as to how they did it and what they used? I would appreciate it greatly.

Spray paint, Wal-mart. Use light even coats, don't try to do it all in one pass. I used three passes/coats and it looks really good. Although in retrospect, I should have used some kind of primer because it chips easily.

I bought a cheapie 20$ eBay case to test out before I sanded my nice Addtronics 🙂

I sanded, working my way up pretty high in the grits. Then I primed and painted 5 coats. and 3 coats of clear coat. Looks sharp.

make sure you can take your entire case apart before you paint it. When i did my first one i took off bot the sides first, then tried to get the top and front panel off, they were giving me a little touble so i figured i will go paint the sides, while theyre drying i will get the top and front off. Well i got the top off, but the front was wired in somehow and it doesnt come off at all 🙂

I just painted my case today!

I used some Krylon Multi Surface Spraypaint.

I agree with the doing it in lots of thin coats. i think i have about 4-5 coats, and might add some clear coat if i have the money. The paint i used can be used on metal and plastic, make sure the paint you get can do that.

Cubic, here is my two cents worth on case painting.

I usually sand the metal parts of my case lightly to rough them up a bit. After I sand it I wash it with warm water. I use a warm washcloth on the top since it is usually rivited in. Then dry your parts and use air to make sure any towel lint is gone. Do not touch your parts with your bare hands because your hands will leave oil that will mess up the paint. I prefer Krylon brand paint. I usually give the metal parts several light coats of grey primer. Sand out any imperfections and wash the parts between coats if necessary.

Apply several light coats of the color coat, several light coats are better then one thick one. The best advice I can give you is take your time. I have allways used spray paint on my plastic parts, some people prefer using vinyl die. I have not used the dye yet but I think that will give you better reults.
