Hey guys,

I'm tryin to upgrade my system and have decided to try and get a case/mb/cpu combo.

I've been told that directron.com is a good place to go for this type of purchase.

I put together:
Intel Coppermine Pentium III 667EB
ASUS P3V4X slot 1 pc133 fsb motherboard
and a pretty cool case for like a total of $500.

I plan to snag a 128mb stick of RAM from micron for another $140.

Anyway, my questions:
-Do you think this is a pretty good combination to build from?
-Is Directron.com a reputable place to buy from?
-Are there any other, cheaper places to configure a case/mb/cpu combo that offers good parts?

I know you anandtech peeps are the best to ask, so let me know

If you are going to overclock then you might want to get a P3 650 or 700 for a 100 MHz FSB instead. The 667 is for a 133 system bus and won't likely o'clock as well. For o'clocking get a CPU from the cB0 stepping also.

Get PC133 CAS 2-2-2 SDRAM. See:

That ASUS is fine, but the ASUS CUSL2 is even cooler. See:

Is it better to get a 700 running at pc100 over a 667 running at pc133?

What are the real advantages of pc133 over pc100?

Also, what are some good companies to configure a case/mb/cpu combo besides directron.com?

i know of pricewatch.com, but i'd like it assembled for me.

thanks

PC133 RAM will run @ 133 MHz, but PC100 may not.-

Contact www.gamepc.com for a custom system build. I haven't dealt with them but they look knowledgeable. There are others. Or search for Compuwiz 1 in these forums - he is very knowledgeable and sells systems, I think @ good prices.

If you're not going to overclock then you want the 667 as I said. A higher system bus is usually faster if the CPU speeds are close - that's why people o'clock - they bump the 700's bus from 100 to 133 to get 933 they hope. But the 667 or 733 is already there @ 133 so you can't expect to go much higher.
