I would do a psu mod, but EMF could be a problem. As it is I was getting wavy lines on my monitor - luckily the last 2 fans balanced it out

i matched up the io plate and just carved it out with a dremel.

so far it's cost about $40 for the material + glue.

all the tools I already had.

External devices causing a clutter?

Put them all in one box!

That's a dialup router running freesco, the modem and switch get power from a duplex recepticle mounted inside. Yes, that is a 33.6 modem. Given that our lines won't do over 28.8, I don't feel the need to use the 56k (which it does have one). Just add a single power cord and you're ready to go. The cover for the modem and switch is a piece of scrap smoke colored lexan that I found, the flash on the camera has a tendancy to show right through it.

Freesco is a "linux router on a floppy" setup, that can (and is) installed on a HD. Freesco can do http service, and if I update the software, it will also do ftp service. So yes, there is still a full PC in there. But it doesn't need any extra stuff to run. Just it's power cord.

I found this old tape drive for $20 last weekend, and decided I just couldn't live with that FUGLY beige case...

pics

Nothing complicated, just a new paint job and lights. Now I just have to write some software for it so I can actually use it for something!
