So i got a Black and Decker RTX for christmas for projects around the house, general destruction, the regular stuff anyone would do with one. I want to cut a window in my alluminum case. What bit should i use? We used to cut mac aquariums and use the drilling bit but i dont know if that would work on alluminum. Any suggestions or tips?

jigsaw is what you want to use with a small bpi...but you should really try the cases and cooling forum as that is the correct one 😉
 
i cut a hole in my case for a window. it was a pain in the ass at times but turned out pretty good.

i know which bit to use but i don't know what it is called. it has diagonal grooves along the side and a flat head.

oh yeah i used my neighbour's hand dremel.
 
He already cross-posted in that waste land. He's gotten several replies here, and none there, which is the norm. I'll never waste my time with any of them again.

Oh, yeah, for cutting a window, I'd drill the large radius holes in the corners and use tin snips to cut the rest. If it's heavy gage aluminum, then I'd use the jigsaw.

Of course, with all the cases being sold with these mods already in them for so cheap, I wouldn't even bother doing it myself!

I was gonna say something but ill just refer to the above~~~~~^. On the cases with prebuilt mods, i would honestly go for one, but i want to be able to say i've done it. The jigsaw is a good idea, i can use my dad's or try to get the case onto a bandsaw (dont know how ill pull that off without taking off the blade). I still dont know what to use for a bit. Im guessing there's a special bit but say i do this, what bit do i use to, say, etch a design in the plexiglass window? Any suggestions are helpful.

 
I just drilled a hole in my side panel for a 120mm fan. No hole saw, so I drilled a small hole and then I used the jigsaw to drill a nice round hole.

I used the dremel to sand the edges out a little better...

Now awaiting 120mm fan + filter.

Are you sure you can't use simple tin snips? How thick is that panel? Either way, you should use a drill with a fair sized bit to put the radius in the corners. The blade for the jigsaw would have to be VERY fine for sheet metal.

I'd be using a sand blaster to "etch a design in the plexiglass". Tape off what you don't want etched.
