Case Modders - what's your rotary tool of choice?

what are the options out there for rotary tools? of course i know about dremel, but what else is out there? what do you use? recommend?

It's not rotary, but a jigsaw comes in handy when you need to do straight lines. Otherwise a dremel is great.

Has anyone tried the rotozip or similar tools? how well do they work (compared to a jigsaw)?

Window....= jigsaw
hole for fan....= holesaw.

Both work great.

Ya forgot the holesaw, they come in very convenient 80 and 120 mm sizes (and others, but case modders use those for some reason!)

A rotozip is nothing more than a LARGE dremmel and more suited for wood than metal.

I'm the minority with the dremmel. Takes a careful hand and a good template.

Used a jigsaw to cut my window out.

A lot of people swear by the dremel. Started cutting my window with the dremel and decided to use the jigsaw, worked so much better, and for me it made a much cleaner cut.

I used a jigsaw with a very fine tooth blade for the long straight cuts on my case window, then the Dremel with a reinforced cutting wheel for the corners. I also use the Dremel for fan holes; my fan holes are not perfectly round - more of a rounded square shape.

Chainsaw is faster, but the Dremel is better.

I've only modded one case, but I used a jigsaw to cut out the window. My neighbor had a rotozip, but the bits for it were all meant for either tile or wood from what I could tell.
For basic stuff, like windows, I recommend the jigsaw and a drill for starter holes. For more intricate stuff I'd have to go with the dremel.

I like a dremel, but a tool I am really starting to like is the fordham tool. It is kinda like the fexible attachments you can buy to go on a dremel, but this is hooked directly to a motor you just sit on the ground with a flexible shaft going to a pen like device on the end which you mount the cutting/grinding attachments. The motor is controlled by a foot pedal.

Does anyone use anything else - Black & Decker's Wizard, or RTX? What about the other power tool manufacturers - Dewalt, Makita, Bosch, etc?

I like to do full investigations before I make purchases - your help would be greatly appreciated.

I picked up a router attachment for my dremel, and it gives you a lot more control than just freehanding a cut. But for fan holes, gotta go with the holesaw.

B&D's wizard is like that miniture rotary tool right??? It will not work. The RTX will work fine and all dremel attachments/bits will fit it.

I have rtx, its awesome, but dremel's and so forth should really only be used if you are poor, and dont have jigsaw/holesaw, or if you need it b/c you are doing something crazy, and intricate. They simply are not the correct tool for most jobs, but if it is all you got go for it.

These are expensive (the 3 1/2" round punch lists for $183).
Probably only cost-effective for mass production purposes, but they make a cleaner cut than does a hole saw.

i used a hole say on a drill press. easy as butter - for fan holes

jigsaw woudl work well for straight lines

I bought an RTX (dremel knockoff) because it was half the price and used all the accessories, etc, just fine. I love it.
