Case mod idea...What do you think?

I saw a guy with a case mod where he placed a 5 inch lcd on the front panel of his computer case, and I thought that it was very cool. He would watch TV and play video games through a second PCI mounted video capture card. Now I don't want a LCD to do anything like that but display inside comp temp and things like that.

I was looking at LCD's and saw that color ones were pretty pricey.

The other day I saw on older HP jornada for sale at around $130 and I had the idea of using the jornada instead of the LCD screen. It would be perfect. You have touch screen capabilites, so one could write an application that controlled your winamp or to shut down or restart your computer. Of course you would also be able to view temp stats and or use it to control your fans also.

I think the only difficult thing would be to write the application to do all the things that I mentioned.

What do you guys think, is it feasible?

very interesting idea, would be nice to be able to do that, though I think it would be very hard.

very ambitious project. The only problem I could see would be writing the software so the jornada could communicate with your PC. It would also depend on where your computer sits. If it's on the floor, would you mind bending down to mess with winamp? If you do decide to do it, send a pic our way so we can see what you did! It would certainly be a great accomplishment. (note: get a good case too, you don't want to mod something you are going to replace in a year or so)

I would be a pricey project to take on...the jornada itself is already over $100, plus to unavoidable little things that I would need.

I hope to make it so that you can plug and play into any case and motherboard.

I have to do more research on it, anyone have some web resources to similar projects?

you're not talkin about this one in our gallery are ya? : Linkie

like the previous ppl mentioned, good luck on writing software to get that jordana working. if you want an color LCD, you can get them for about $100 on ebay that take normal av connectors.
