I bought a Coolmaster Hyper 6 HSF which arrived yesturday while I was reading various posts about it in the forum.

After a few topics I started to get worried about the weight and how it would affect my mobo (abit k8Pro) in my Xaser Skull case! Now I dont wanna install it until I can think of a way to make it safer.

I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas of a simple/cheap way of modding the case somehow (wether it be fitting some kind of casing or using cable ties and attaching it to something) which would hold the HSF and take away some of the weight on the mobo.

I desperatly want to use this HSF cos I think it looks great (bigger is better for me :D ) and I don't want to embark on my first overclock until I have it installed so any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd also love to hear from anyone whos using this HSF in an upright tower case.

Thanks in advance ^_^

i guess you could take some cabling to the end of the hyper 6 and bind it to the top of hte case - to relive some downward torque.

turn your case on its side would be the easiest thing.....but those thermal take cases have nice weighty doors, and well it is on its side thats gonna be a pain.

t should of come with a backplate? or ur mobo already has a back plate? even stil iv seen the size of that hyper six n i think jus a back plate is pushing it

My mobo came with a backplate set and the cooler I'm currently using also came with a backplate but both of them use plastic moulds but I believe the backplate which comes with the HSF is made from a different material so it should be alot stronger but it will still have a huge pulling force on the backplate which will also mean the mobo!

Maybe I can find a way of permanantly attaching the backplate to the Xaser's mobo tray thereby having the HSF pulling on the mobo tray itself instead of the mobo.

The cabling idea was what I originaly thought of but I can't seem to find anything to attach it to :( Maybe I can attach it to my PSU somehow (since the PSU is held up by lil trays sticking out from the case), or maybe attaching it to the little tray :S

I'll have to have another look at it when I get home!

I've been using a Hyper 6 with two Panaflo fans for months using the supplied backplate that came with it no problems. Make sure all your available motherboard standoff screws are installed and being used to prevent mobo flexing.
