Case hole

Can I use a drill with one of those bits that are have an empty cirlce in the middle to cut holes in my case? It needs better ventalation and I want to add a grill. We have a Black and Decker and Milwaukee corded drills and a Craftman cordless drill. My mom also has a jigsaw, a scroll saw, a belt sander(one of those table models) and some other cutting equipment I believe.

Yes, you can use a hole saw (the hollow center bit) to drill blow holes in your case, just make sure that the bit is slightly smaller than the size of the fan you are planning to install, it will vibrate itself around and make the hole a little bit larger than you'd like. Dremels are also invaluable tools to slicing and dicing your case. Good luck!

It will be kinda hard to find the right sized hole saw. They are expensive too. Here's a link of a place where you can get them. Like BatmanNate said, dremels are also very good for cutting on your case, but hole saws are definetly easier.

It's not hard figuring out which hole saw to buy...think about the ole' geometry days.

Electrical contractors use a device called a Greenlee puch to make holes in sheet metal much more neatly and easily than hole saws. You should be able to get a contractor to punch the hole you need for a reasonable price. The choice of sizes is limited, however, but they go quite large.

Get a 2 1/4" hole saw and go to town, but make sure you take the panel off the case before drilling. Small metal flakes flying around your case are a bad idea (I believe 2 1/4" is the perfect size for an 80mm fan)
