I am planning on adding some more case fans to my computer case. I have 3x 80mm holes and I am going add 4 fans. What I want to know is if I can take 2 of these new fans and put them together to double the cfm. Is this possible?? I would connect them with nut and bolt method and then attach the one fan to the case. Please lmk if I can do this. Thanks in advance.

The first fan moves air. But the second fan pretty much idles. The reason is the air exiting from the first fan (suction side) is already at a slightly elevated pressure. Say that the prerssure difference is delta P. The second fan (discharge side) does not have the capability to further increase pressure by another delta P.

If you stack identical fans, the first fan will spin at the rated speed. The second fan will spin really fast, way above the rated speed. Unfortunately, it affects final air pressure little. The second fan will simply wear out.

What if you alligned the fans and then taped the blades together so it would be just a really deep fan.

That sounds like a far better plan. It may be physically difficult because of the way the blade is mounted to the frame. If you figure the way out, please let me know, too.

What happens if you put one fan at 7V and the other at 12 ? they might be quieter (less strain on the 12 V)... but it also might require a little gap between them to let in some air.

Thanks for the ideas and helpful tips. I will try to tape them together and see what happens. But I will prolly just put one @ each hole. Thanks though.

That sounds cool! :D

What I normally end up doing is just making a double-size oval hole and putting the fans side-by-side :)
