is there a software that will detect the temp of my case then automatically turn on my case fan if it reaches a certain degree? if not, does anyone know the parts i would need at radio shack for this?

dude.. why would u ever want ur case fans to EVER be off! cooler=better=more stable=(in extreme cases) faster.. u want as many fans runnin as u can afford/handle the noise... =) hope this helps.. btw if ur asking this question not because u didnt know any better, but because u just want to try to do this for the pure hell of figuring it out, u can use a smaller computer sys, i think its like a stamp 380 or something, (its normally used in small robotics) that could use the temp read and have the program set for when the temp reached a certain degree, to send the charge for the fan.. just an idea..

SXMP,

I just disabled a 120mm intake fan to cut down on noise. The case temp. went up of course but that's had zero influence on stability. Nada, none, zippo. Wish I would have done this months ago. :(

You only get better stability if you go from a WAY hot system to a much cooler system. Most people want to have a balance between cool and queit. I was wondedring the same thing. I was thinking of how you would make one and i can't figure it out, may have to construct it all from parts at radio shack.

MacPower (yes its a mac company, but who cares theyre thing is sweet) makes a product called the DigitalDoc, it has temp sensors that you hook up and you can have it automatically turn the fans on and off at certin temps, i know what u mean, big fans=big noise, maybe SXMP doesnt realize that some people keep their computers in their bedrooms and its hard to sleep with a loud fan going

anyways, dont get the DigitalDoc II or III because those dont support 120mm fans, in a few weeks theyll come out with the DigitalDoc 5 which will support them

Digital Doc was listed under the thread "Worst things i have bought but thought was cool at the time"
Apprently it will drive you insane because you keep on hearing these fans cycle on and off noisly.

for those of you who don't mind doing a little 'handywork" and 'electrical engineering", you can check out virtualhideout.com, they hve guide's on how to make fanbus's, switches, and variable dials using rheostats, lets you manually control your whole fan setup, i myself have a 4 port fanbus and a second fanbus connected to 4 individual switches and two rheostats to "control" my two noisiest fans...

Supradude,

Other than the "cool factor" of your setup, do you really feel you benefit from that extra control? That's really a lot of tinkering for what some might call dubious reasons (ie do you really need to have all that cooling going?). I decided to simply ax my noisey 120mm...I still get decent cooling and have no stability problems at all. Are you taking a CPU to its absolute limits and really need cool case guts??

turning the fans on or off depends on the situation.....for a good reason.
For me......I use a baybus to manually turn the fans when I go to bed or when I'm watching DVD. But then I can turn them on when I need play some games which need a little cooler geforce to run.

btw.....being able to control 3x120mm 1x90mm fans is so handy that I would never want to roll back to the old day.

Cliff Fanbus rules....

I wouldn't mind having my fans turn off. I had a couple Sunon 80mm High Output fans running for a while, and finally they drove me crazy enough to take them out. My case temp went up about 5F, but my system is just as stable, and I can hear the phone ring now :)

Yeah......those 80mm sunon high output are really annoying....(in my second system). I solved it by installing a baybus to control them.
Now....I can sleep tightly and wake up to play games as I wish.

<< I can sleep tightly and wake up to play games as I wish. >>

Life doesn't get much better. ;)

A fan bus is probably the best solution and I'll consider that for my next box (which likely may require extreme cooling if it turns out to be a P4 or next-generation AMD)!
