I should probably get some case fans for my tower. I'm upgrading to an AMD 64 3000+. The case has a front fan, but I'm not sure if it works. What case fans are recommended? Do I just need two? Are exhaust fans the PCI slot types?

Exhaust fans are fans that blow air out of the case. They should be placed in the rear, and intake fans (for sucking air into the case) should be placed in the front.

Open up your case and see if there are any empty fan bays, and if so, fill them up.

panasonic panaflo are good fans (they use a special bearing)

there should be fan mounts inside your case for puting them in, exhaust fans are not a 'pci slot type'. there should be mounts for blowing air out of the rear of the case.

what case do you have? the athlon 64 isnt that hot.

I'd replace all the fans and make sure you have at least an intake + exhaust.

unless you go extremely high-end / extremely low-end or are looking for something specific (low noise, led lights, etc), I've never found much difference between case fans.

Me thinks that you should at least take the side of your case and look inside, as it sounds like you have never done that before.

"I'm not sure if it works."

Check to see:

1. Where you have fan mounts.
2. What size are the mounts.
3. Does the mobo have any fan connectors.

Panaflos are VERY quiet. Make sure you get one that is tailed (has a power connector) or at least know how to put one on.

Panaflos are incredible fans, the only thing is if you are looking for even quieter fans there is the Acoustifan but that is like 20 dollars whereas the Panaflos are only around 6-7$. I have 3 in my case right now (2rear, 1 CPU) and i am going to get more.

While on this, with my last order my Panaflos came with the 2 pin connector, On one i ripped the cables out of it, then ripped it out of my 3 pin connector on the old fan and jammed them in the 3 pin connector, it worked but it looks like sh!t. On the other fan i just clipped the little notches at the top of the 2 pin connector, and put it on 2 pins and left 1 bare, is there a better way of doing this.

So if I already have regular cheap fans in my case (Raidmax case, two included case fans, and the PSU fan but they are all brand new), I may as well just get a $1 or $2 fan from newegg instead of a Panaflo hey?? It's already decently cool so I wouldn't need high performance and I figure it'd already be too loud to appreciate the quietness of a Panaflo. :)
