case fan position?

A while back I built my new computer and put a AMD 1.2GHz with a TaiSol hsf on it. The cooling of the cpu has been pretty good 'without' the case closed (around 46-48C at full loads). I'd now like to be able to close up my case and still keep my cpu cool and without having a huge fan in there that makes lots of noise (which is one of the reasons I got the TaiSol in the first place). So I'm thinking that now I have to look at putting in some case fans to help cool it off along with my TaiSol.

My question is what would be a good case fan to install and where should I put it? I have a full tower with no other case fans except of course the one in my power supply. My main goal being that I just want to be able to close my case up again 🙂

Well, the normal configuration is to have:

One fan at the front of the case blowing IN
One fan at the back of the case (just under the PSU) blowing OUT

If you can only stand one fan, then I would suggest the front fan. It is probably the more effective of the two (in single form), as there is some exhaust from the PSU...

Thanks, I think I'm probably going to go ahead and put in several fans. Two like you said then another one on the side panel.

Cool - remember that you should have the same number of intake and exhaust fans - it makes them far more effective:

4 - (2 in, 2 out) is far better than
3 - (2 in, 1 out)

and as an addition to migroo's comment, PS fan don't count ^^.

Yeah ku is right.

A lot of the time the PS fan runs a lot slower than most case fans, so counting it as an extraction fan would be wrong 🙂

I put a fan (blowing out) in the top of my case, one below the PS (blowing out) and two in front (sucking in). This seems to work well for me. I would like to put another on the side of my case but I cut a nice AMD logo in it.
