Case EMI shield panels necessary?

For my full tower, my case/chasis has steel plates you can twist off, and the manual calls them EMI shield. Those need to be taken off before 5.25" drives can go in. I'm thinking about taking them off and mount an intake fan there. Would it matter if I take off all of the EMI shielding plates?

I think you'll have dust problems, unless you put those fans on exhaust, since air at that part of the case is hotter.

I'm already having dust problem. With 2x120mm outflow and 1x120mm inflow, there's not enough air coming in, so the dust is being sucked in. I'm hoping more inflow would correct the balance.
