Grommets between fan and case.

the backside fan is 80mm, but I used a holesaw to extend it to 92mm size, redrilled new holes for the bolts, too.

THe front two fans are smooshed together(side by side).

Awesome thanks. I suppose you dont loose enough air beteween the fan and the case with the grommet to make a diff. What about the "grille" in the front of the case did you holesaw that out too? What size hole saws did you use 3inch and 3 1/2 inch?

Mike: the caption under the last picture says you use a bounty sheet for a filter...is that one of the fabric softener sheets or what? cause i know they make paper towels too...i never thought of using a filter before...does it really help w/o slowing down the air intake? TIA
 
Bounty Dryer Sheets. The intake drop-off is very small with them.

KoulatheCat. I used electrical tape to seal the gaps between fan-grommet-case. If you do this, the grommets help quiet the fans a bit, but also don't lose very much if any airflow.

Makes your case smell great too! I used to use this stuff, but with my really weak fans lost noticable presure, then tried panty hose, worked a little better, then tried mesh filter...ahh perfect

What did you do at the front of the case, mine has a lovely vented bubble for the old fan. Did you cut two three inch holes and just skip a bolt on the one fan or what? Do you have a picture of your case with the front bezel off by any chance?

I was considering making an ovaloid hole (two 3 inch holes and join them together) and making a wood frame to mount the fans on. Then mount the frame to the case.

So you only used four nuts/bolts to anchor the fans and zip tied them in the front? What about the annoying bezel for the stock fan?
 
that front hole is gone, i cut through it with a hole saw.

I think I used 4/5 bolts, and the middle one I missed with the drill bit, so I had to zip tie the fans together there.
