Case/Cooling Advice

I am looking at buying and Enlight Endura 7237 Case for $48.99. I am considering the following modifications. I would like to puy one YS Tech 120mm fan in the front of the case drawing air in and another in the top of the case blowing air out.

I am only running my processor at stock speed now but I plan to overclock in the near future. I am using an ALPHA PAL6035 with the noisy black label fan. The noise now is tollerable for me. My CPU runs stable at 45C.

I know the YS Tech 120s make 45 decibels of noise, does this mean if I run two I will experience 90dB? or what can I expect.

Is this setup overkill and a waste of my money?

well, here's my Enlight 7237.

You won't get 90db with 2 45db ys tech fans.

more like 45.5 dbs,at 46 dbs the loudness to you is doubled.Sort of like the quake scale magnitude,a 6 is bad a 7 is horrible,a 8,9 is well,worse.I dont know what a jet engine is but 90dbs,would run me out the house!

Will the two 120s fit, one in the front drawing in and the other blowing air out the top? Would the 92s work about as well? How well does the fan directing air to the CPU/Heat sink work? How well does the rear exhaust work? Are two 80s better in front than a 120? Sorry about all the questions, just want to make sure I spend what little money I have well.

A 120mm will fit in the front of the enlight, but it will be very, very tight. It is because it was so tight that I went with 2 80mms instead.

Which do you think will work best the 120 or the two 80s? What problems would the fan being a tight fit be? How effective is the fan blowing air onto the CPU and the one exhausting out the back?

I am thinking of painting my case granite. They have a simulated granite paint (with texture and all) at Home Depot.

Id go for two 92mm fans in the front myself, now with 2 infront thats gonna be one huge volume of air comin in, like something around 70cfm at 25dB. Maybe build some kinda air scoup too that pushes the air kinda up towards the CPU/AGP graphics. And another 92mm fan would fit nicely right in the back below the PS...go even further add a blow hole at the top about 80mm...going bigger then 80 would be too much negative pull.

BTW two 92mm do fit up in front! i've done it its very very tight ya may have to sand down the case of the fans just a mm or so.

The fans I am looking at using are from 2CoolTek. They stock the Sunon High Output 80mm (42.5cfm 36.5Db), Sunon 92mm (44cfm 33Db), YS TECH 120mm (131.5cfm 45Db) or the Sunon 120mm (90cfm 44.5Db).

Noise is not really an issue since im running the "Black Label" Delta fan on my heat sink and I have my sound hooked to a Sony Surround Reciever so I can allways crank it up.

Would It make sense to put the two 92 mm Sunons each drawing 44cfm (44x2=88?) in the front and the Sunon 120 exhausting 90 cfm in the top? If not will two 92mm Sunon 44cfm fit in the top?

What about adding to that the 92mm you spoke of below the power supply (exhaust) with another 92mm in the left side of the case (intake)?

two 92mm up front...with some kinda modication to the front brazel to allow air to enter freely as possible and a 92mm under the PS is plenty, to me its really over doing it. I wouldn't recommend putting a fan on the side...like on the side removable panels. You want the air to pass through your case as fast as possible, adding a fan going in another direction is gonna cause turbulence within the case and slow down the process of new air and exhausting air. If you want more air presure mount your fans away from the front more in the middle of the case rig something so its kinda angled up towards towards your hot spot (GFX/CPU) and somehow create a duct from where the fans were orginaly.

don't know if anybody mentioned this yet, but....I would go for smaller, quieter fans.... Two 120mm fans@45dec is going to be like 48 decibels...

I had one 120mm 43 decibel fan and it drove me crazy... I replaced it with a 92mm and 120mm and combined they put out the same cfm but at only 32 decibels or so

Use multiples of smaller quieter fans to get the cooling you need. Don't overdo it and drive youself crazy....

A 120mm fan starts to interfere with the latch that keeps the front bezel on. 2 80mms can match a quiet 120mms output, but if noise isn't a concern, you can definately get 2 80mms that push out 36+CFM each.

Im thinking about copying your set up (if ya dont mind) minus the 120mm in the side of the case. What do you think? Is the 120 neccesary to equalize out the pressure in the case or????

You will not expirence 90dB or anything close to that. Because dB are not measured in a base 10 system, like the metric system or our counting system, something that is 20dB is 100x as loud as something at 10dB. I am to lazy to do the math but as you can see from that, it will be no where near 90dB.

Just for your info, a 747 is at 125dB which is a tick above the 120dB damage level, which means that anything above this level will permantly damage your ears. It would kind of suck if i had 4 120's in my case and every time I fired it up my ears began to bleed because of the noise P

Okay I ordered 2 Sunon 80mm High Output fans to go in the front (intake) 42.5 cfm each (36.5 Db). Two Sunon 92mm fans 44cfm (33Db), one to go below the power supply (exhaust). One in the top of the case (exhaust). Mesh grills for the 80mm intakes and one for the 92 on the top of the case (to keep my cat's tail and other crud out). I plan on adding one more 92mm inside the case to blow air over my CPU/GPU. The whole thing was somewhere around $45 bucks including shipping. My Enlight case was about $60 including shipping. Not to darn bad for $105. Any input on this setup?

For me, to equalize pressure, i need the 120mm. But if you go with rear 80mm, top 80mm, and 2 front 80mms, the pressure is close enough to even.

Err, just read your setup.. It should be fine.

Also, i definately do not mind you copying my setup. That's the whole reason I share it.

Once I was at my local pc part retailer and I saw dozens of AMD badges that came with CPUs they never used, because they stick their own on the comps they build. I said "Can I have 2 please ?" and of course they gave them away.
Never costs to ask nicely.

Mikewarrior what did you use to cut your holes and mount your fans?

1 1/4 inch 3/32 Nuts/Bolts from Home Depot(come in packs of 6), rubber grommets to help quiet them a bit.

Holes are done with hole says except for the very top hole, which was done a long time ago.

You can also use a dremel or a jigsaw to do the holes. My advice is to use whatever you can get your hands on.

Okay cool, I can get almost any tool I need from my Dad, Brother or Neighbor, all are in construction.
Where did you put the rubber grommets, on the nut or the bolt side?

What did you do for the 92mm under the power supply, the 7237 has a place for an 80mm there right? What did you do to adapt it for the 92?

Did you put space beteween the two 80mm s in the front or butt them up together? Each 80mm has its own hole (3 inch i think) right?
