Anyone want to disagree with me?

Sure, why not? :p

I don't remember exactly what they were but Casablanca introduced many new filmmaking techniques that are in use today.

hehe, the previous 2 posts are exactly what I expected...someone's bound to think that the top classics aren't all that great.

I could personally sit down and watch those 3 movies any day of the week and still love it. (not all at the same time though...at least give me a nap before 2001 :p)

the only reason it seems overrated to you now is because all the novel ideas/techniques that it introduced to the world of cinema have now become commonplace and cliche

do the movie a favor, and dont watch it again until you learn a little more about the historical context of cinema in the early 1940's

Yep - they're all great flicks.

Yeah, it's just kind of one of those things you simply have to see to get so many cultural references. Like in the end of MST3K's 7th season, they did their little 2001 tribute, with Dr. Forester, from his death bed, reaching for a large monolithic videotape.

Casablanca......one of these years maybe I'll finally see it.

I htought it was Citizen Kane

You're right, but you left out "Rashomon" (sp?) from the competition.

"Casablanca", though, is one of my favorite movies, probably second to "Amadeus".

I like the movie.

But it's just odd that the city of Casablanca is trash and Marrakesh is more beautiful to visit; and no hollywood movie "Marrakesh."

QFT. I preferred 2010, which was actually an okay film. Aside from that, it had a 20 minute light show. No matter what Kubrick was trying to do there, 20 minutes of nothing = unenjoyable waste of my time.

It has nothing to do with it being a film from the 1940's. The acting is so overly dramatic that it's sickening. BTW, Arsenic and Old Lace is probably my favorite movie and that came out in 1944. So why don't you do me a favor and get off your high horse.

Peter Lorre, over-acting? Humphrey Bogart, over-acting? Puhleez. You get off your high-horse!

Edit: spelling

I like Casablanca, and I think the funny overacting and stuff is part of the appeal of the film. But, you don't like it, so what?

I think people who have to rank movies as "best of all time" and get everybody to agree with them before they like a movie, are silly. But that's just my opinion.

Agree with you about Titanic.

Overrated? Not in the least. Bogey and Bergman. What more could you want? Next thing you'll tell us is that Dumb and Dumber is your favorite movie.
