CAS 2 or higher FSB speeds?

Which is faster? Obviously it depends, but say I could get an extra 4-5 Mhz out of my FSB with CAS 2.5 or 3 (it's DDR), would you go with it? At what point wouldn't you go with it?

I would say that 5Mhz extra FSB but with CAS 3 would be about the same as lower FSB with CAS 2, but it depends on the app you are running.

latency vs bandwidth

one cas difference is just few ns - too tiny to notice,
and lower cas just improves the initial data burst, after that cas difference doesn't do anything.

I'd choose bandwidth over latency when the latency difference is so tiny.

Well if you are trying to pull 4 more mhz out of your FSB (usually the reason why ram speed changes) then the CAS 3 option at 4mhz higher would be faster.

I saw a test done on this once and cas3 needed about 35Mhz more to equal cas2. I remember it was quite alot 'o extra mhz.

I'll say try it yourself. Download Sandra's and compare memory performance and system performance to see the difference. I still believe the CAS 2 setting will be faster than CAS 3 with extra 5Mhz.😎
