OK, I'm 32. Born in 1974. I remember, as a kid, I woke up every Saturday morning and watched cartoons for what seemed like hours and hours. And after school in the afternoon I did it again but had a different set of shows. Who else remembers the same thing and what were your favorites?

Some I remember I always loved were:
Gummi Bears
Thunder Cats
Smurfs
Wood Woodpecker
Transformers (original)
Voltron (lions)
GI Joe

I'm sure I'll add more to this list as I see more replies...

I want to try to find some of these for my daughter when she's a bit older since I think most of today's cartoons, with everything being computer generated or anime style, just plain suck compared to the old ones.

Those were my favorites.

I did always like Duck Tales. Still remember some of the theme song.

Cartoons just aren't what it used to be. I feel sorry for the kids these days.

Original Voltron was the shit. So was Thundercats. I remember when they would play those on Cartoon Network back in the good ol' days when Toonami was first made.

I'm only 18 though so I don't really know some of the older ones...

When I read the title of this thread I immediately thought of Fat Albert, which I had never seen and figured I should check out. So I just did on YouTube, and man... that's some pretty primitive looking stuff from my perspective. It's nearly unwatchable, in fact. We've come a long way, baby.

Edit: By the way, modern cartoons suck, but so do the nearly all of those you mentioned in your OP. The only reason you remember them fondly is probably because you were a stupid kid when you saw them, just like your kid will be (no offense, all kids will be) when she watches all those "anime" cartoons in our modern day. Nostalgia works wonders on the common sense of taste.

Hunt down the banned cartoons, funny as hell. The two that come to mind are, Bugs Bunny nips the nips and Coal Black and the Seben (spelled that way in the title) dwarfs. They have been deemed to raciest and removed from circulation, but I found them on Kaza a few years back.

Yeah, I have a bunch of those racialist WB toons plus Disney propaganda. Thankfully, they were still airing when I was a kid and I'm happy to report they had no negative influence and were simply enjoyable entertainment.

Besides all the Looney Tunes and Hanna Barbera schtuff, later on I really dug Star Blazers. That's all I can think of really. The backwards 'cartoon as marketing for pre-existing toy' crap was mostly after my time. As for primitive, HB was compared to WB/LT but the worst that I can remember is Spider Man. Slightly less so, which I just remembered was the other super hero stuff with the Legion of Doom and all that. Never a real fanatic for such but rather preferred Pepe Le Pew, Speedy Gonzales, Sam Sheepdog, Road Runner, Bugs and Daffy of course.

Just came across this site which brought back the kid out of me. Warm feelings and a big smile. :D

http://www.tvparty.com/sat.html

Here were my favourites then:

Merry Melodies
Rocket Robinhood
Hercules
Marvel Superheroes
Marineboy
Astroboy
Speed Racer
Popeye
Woody Woodpecker
Huckleberry Hound
Yogi Bear
Flintstones
Jetsons
Frankenstein Junior and The Impossibles
Atom Ant
Mister Magoo
Squidly Diddly
Secret Squirrel (+ Winsome Witch)
Spiderman
Heckle and Jeckle
Pink Panther
Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp

While not cartoons in a strict sense, all the Supermarionation offerings were also much appreciated when coming back from school at 4pm, just before supper.
