The board accepted CART management proposals for changes that will go into effect at Milwaukee, and includes a measure that eliminates the mandatory pit window rule that was enacted last season. The rule, which stated that cars must pit within a specific number of laps, was put into place in 2002 in order to eliminate fuel-economy racing--a factor that was in large part resolved by the addition of new ECU systems in the Ford-Cosworth XFE engines. CART management maintains the ability to use the pit-window rule on oval tracks of more than 1.5 miles in length--a mandate that helped promote tight racing on the larger ovals in 2002.

Good news IMO. Hope CART gets back to its former glory.

I have been a fan of CART for a long time...yes its popularity has gone down but its speed and excitement IMO have not.

Ovals only is boring. The mix is fun. (CART)

For myself, I don't follow F1 because F1 doesn't get as much network coverage. No cable means no Speedvision or ESPN, so I'm lacking in F1 coverage.

I also think that this rescinding of the pit stop rule is a good idea. Fuel economy is part of racing, falls under being able to manage the car IMO.

I do follow F1. But the racing is not as good. See 2002 🙁
So far the F1 season has been more interesting than before. We'll see how it goes.

Might sound dumb but I rather have a good amopunt of rules, then very little. Isn't it F1 that says you can run what ever engine you want, adn the only people that win are teams with piles of money.

I rather have the teams stuck to one set of standards for aero, engine, trans' . etc... That way it is a fair fight, not one that only answers, Who has the most money.

Personally, I find most open wheel racing incredibly boring as the drivers tend to be so spread out that there's not close racing. Now SCCA, THERE is some close racing with extremely flexible rules.
