Terrell Davis blew out his knee and had to retire. Hopefully Palmer will do better. He's not a running back so he doesn't have to run a lot, he's not much of a scrambler to begin with anyway. Maybe he needs to sit out this coming season to completely heal. If he comes back too early and get hurt again, Chad Pennington, it could be career ending.

I don't know if someone's mentioned it already, but the doctor has issued a statement saying that his comments were in reference to Palmer's type of accident but not his case specifically. Furthermore, a return to training camp is still a possibility. This was just on ESPN

Maybe it's true, maybe it's just PR spin...we'll see.

OP, you're taking ESPN hype and twisting it even further. No where in that article does it say his career may be over. ESPN (which is more and more like the National Enquirer every day) chose to put a big screaming "potentially career-ending" in their headline here, but that seems out of context with the generally optimistic comments the surgeon made. Everything he says in the body of the article indicates he expects him to come back.

If you read the article, he was wearing a brace. With these things there has to be some balance between stability and mobility. He seemed to have been using a lighter brace, opting for mobility. The surgeon says it didn't perform like it should have, but who knows. I'm less inclined to blame his equipment and more inclined to say the human knee is not designed for 300+ pound men to crash into it at bad angles. I think it's a miracle more NFL players don't go down with severe joint injuries every weekend.

Yeah, that was a fvcking cheap shot. Also the latest hit I've ever seen. I know the dude *looked* like he didn't mean it, but c'mon... What are the chances?

Agreed. Every time I watch the Falcons, I cringe when Vick is hit (and I'm not even a fan of Vick). When Vince Young enters the league, you'll see defenders go for his knees :(

Shut the hell up jagoff, you know it wasn't. He got knocked over by a Cinci player and looked up while he was going down.

Way to troll....
I wasn't trolling at all. The hit was late and illegal.

Expect a ban for personal attack.

Hopefully he can be back to at least 90% of his mobility before the injury. It sucks, but that's part of football (or any sport).

First sentence from the story:

Carson Palmer's knee injury was "devastating and potentially career-ending," involving numerous ligament tears, a shredded ligament, damaged cartilage and a dislocated kneecap, his surgeon said Thursday. I would imagine the quotations would be coming straight from the doctor, which is a fair assumption, wouldn't you say?

That really sucks :( He has a really bright future if he's able to make it back and Cincinati is definately not going to forgot this run they had.

This whole injury is serious bs. Ive been waiting along damn time for the bengals to make it to the playoffs and to watch my hopes get flushed down the toilet on Palmers first pass just wasnt cool at all.

The NFL needs to improve body protection that the players wear. Some of the hits and tackles I have been seeing in games lately are not that far from causing serious crippling if not life treating injuries. And as the players get bigger, stronger, and faster this situation will only get worse.

For all the people who bemoan the "pussification" of the US what is more important your need to be macho or football players suffering avoidable career ending injuries?

Deliberate hit or not, I wonder how much of an under-the-table cash bonus von Oelhoffen received following the game?

Kitna is by no means a replacement but he's a free agent and did decent enough as a backup against pittsburgh. What do the bengals do now?

It's not for our entertainment that they play and get injured, it's for their paycheck. It's for the business. Do we complain when heavy equipment operators get injured? Many, mnay people do dangerous things for a living, and this isn't really different.
