OP, you're taking ESPN hype and twisting it even further. No where in that article does it say his career may be over. ESPN (which is more and more like the National Enquirer every day) chose to put a big screaming "potentially career-ending" in their headline here, but that seems out of context with the generally optimistic comments the surgeon made. Everything he says in the body of the article indicates he expects him to come back.

This injury has been recurring ever since this sport (and other like-minded sports) has been invented, and it needs to be addressed. We can't keep allowing the finest & most fit atheletes to be crippled for our entertainment, that sh|t went out with the Romans, didn't it?
If you read the article, he was wearing a brace. With these things there has to be some balance between stability and mobility. He seemed to have been using a lighter brace, opting for mobility. The surgeon says it didn't perform like it should have, but who knows. I'm less inclined to blame his equipment and more inclined to say the human knee is not designed for 300+ pound men to crash into it at bad angles. I think it's a miracle more NFL players don't go down with severe joint injuries every weekend.
