i had a Grand Marquis with power-inflatable lumbar
support - very comfortable. you can buy a very nice used one
with 10k-15k miles for $15-$17K.

WRX has amazing seats, but you won't be able to fit between the super-deep side bolsters if you weigh much over 200 lbs.

Just giving the idea, but you could always buy the seats and put them in your current car, that way you won't need to buy a whole new car for the nice seats

Its a lease so its gone in a few months anyway 🙂

my $27k truck with fabric seats is perfectly fine... drove 450 miles to school about 20 times over 4 years and never even thought about comfort cause I didn't have to. The Accord we have - I can't even sit for an hour straight.

I don't think there's any formula to it.

Honestly, the most comfortable long distance seats were in my '91 Grand Prix. I had bench front and rear but after 450 miles of driving, I wasn't tired at all.

The sole reason I love my Dodge Caravan is the comfort of the seats. Exactly right for me, and the angle of the minivan, slightly elevated, means that looking out & around is easy and natural.

Start renting & driving other people's vehicles right away, find out what works for you. You'll never know. I wouldn't have thought of a Caravan until I drove someone else's and it felt like driving in a lounge chair control throne.

I'd tell you to look into mid/high end SUVs (and with a budget of 30k, you could buy just about anything from 2001-2003) but while they'll be comfortable for the commute, you'll end up paying $$$ in gas. I think the seats in my durango are great for long trips, and obviously it's big enough that I can flop around/rearrange myself if I'm not comfortable.... but I don't know that I'd want to go 100 miles a day at 17 mpg.

Edit: Strangely enough, I think you may find a more comfortable ride in a domestic car, rather than an import. My impression of the german models especially has always been that while they are well laid out and supportive, their seats leave a lot to be desired in overall comfort. That's not to say that your seats need to look like a la-z-boy recliner to feel good, but then again...

I love the seats in my 2001 Neon, they are much more comfortable than the seats in my dads 2k Maxima... strange how that works 😛
you don't need to buy an expensive car to get comfy seats 🙂

Honestly? The Passat is a great long distance hauler. For what it's worth, my Mazda 3 was also quite comfortable for my 1800 mile drive between IA and AZ. It's also quite nice for my regular 700 mile round trips between Phoenix and Las Vegas.
Beemers have very nice seats as well. Think firm and supportive for long trips or your ass/back will hate you.

I usually get those on my business trips. Excellent car - very comfortable, great V8 engine and suspension, beautiful interior, nice conservative styling.

I drive a '97 concorde lxi with the rare option of leather bench seats in there... comfy as hell... I love driving that thing. I'm 6'3", 185ish so I can't really fit comfy into a lot of cars.

The best seats I've ever sat in were my dad's '89 Chrysler TC by Maserati... those italian leather seats were inexplicably the best seats I have ever sat in, hands down. Something about that Maserati Italian leather that you can't find in ANY domestic car.

These are nice.

300M is pretty nice too.

buicks
if you can find one you like they are sofas on wheels.
You may not like the fact that they are old people cars, but old people drive them for a reason...they are damn comfortable.

i drove 900 miles from ATL to NYC and back in a BMW 325i (not brand new), stopping twice for gas and i thought it was real comfortable.. didnt get numb or anything the whole time...

plus it was getting ~28 miles to the gallon (hwy)...
